Obituary of Carol A. Gullo

Carol A. Gullo, 83, of Spruce Street, Jamestown, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday January 8, 2019 in UPMC Chautauqua Hospital. She was born August 28, 1935 in Jamestown, the daughter of the late Adolph and Minnie Nazzaro Colera. Carol was a 1953 graduate of Jamestown High School. She was a devoted wife, mother of six, grandmother, sister, and friend. Carol demonstrated her priorities of faith and family in everything she did. As a devout Catholic, all of her children attended Ss Peter and Paul Catholic School. She started working as a teenager for her parents at Johnny's Lunch, and continued to support her brother and sister in the family business (Johnny's Lunch and AJ's) after raising her children. Through her work, volunteer activities and hobbies, Carol cultivated a beautiful social network of friends. She was a long-standing member of the Catholic Daughters of America, where she held several leadership positions. She was also a founding member of the "Gourmet Girls", a club of amazing women that she and her friends started in high school that is still going strong today. She also led and organized many of her high school class reunions throughout the years. Carol's hobbies included bowling, cooking, baking and playing cards with her friends. She was a role model to those who knew her for her grace, joy, optimism, strength, kindness to others and unconditional love. Carol saw each day as a blessing and lived life to its fullest. She was a communicant of Holy Apostles Parish, Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church. Surviving are two sons: Fred (Jessie) Gullo Jr. of Kildeer, IL, John (Kelley) Gullo of Oldsmar, FL; four daughters: Marjorie Conklin of Jamestown, NY, Susan (Gasper) Fulfaro of East Amherst, NY, Joanna (Jeff) Struthers of Las Vegas, NV, Josette (Alex) Civiletti of Hamburg, NY; eight grandchildren: Brian Conklin, Dylan Gullo, Julia Fulfaro, Alex Fulfaro, Dominic Gullo, Addisyn Gullo, Alexandra Civiletti, and Lucia Gullo; a brother: Sam (the late Joan) Colera of Lakewood, NY; two sisters: Dianne (Gus) Calamunci of West Ellicott, Linda Calimeri of Jamestown; and several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Fred Gullo whom she married June 30, 1967 and who died August 27, 2005; and many loving aunts and uncles. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday in Holy Apostles Parish, Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church. The Rev. Dennis W. Mende, pastor, will be celebrant. Entombment will be in the Holy Sepulchre Cemetery Mausoleum. The family will receive friends from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday in the Lind Funeral Home where a Christian Wake Service will be led at 1:45 p.m. and the Catholic Daughters will recite the Rosary at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Holy Apostles Parish, 508 Cherry Street, Jamestown, NY 14701.
