Obituary of William N. Dean

William N. Dean, 85, formerly of Lakewood, NY, passed away at 4:05 a.m. Friday, January 11, 2019, in the Heritage Village Rehab and Skilled Nursing Facility. He was born October 20, 1933 in Ontario, NY, the son of the late Morris and Edith Wigley Dean. Bill was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving from January 21, 1953 to December 15, 1954 during the Korean War, earning the Army of Occupational Medal (Germany) and the National Defense Service Medal. His working career took him many places on the east coast from New York to Florida. He retired from IBM Corporation at the age of 55. While living in the Jamestown area he had been associated in owning and operating several businesses including the former Eatery Restaurant, Dean's Restaurant, and the Dart Field Restaurant. During the 1990's he had also worked at Walt Disney World in Orlando, FL for five years. He will be remembered as a loving and caring husband, father and grandfather who never believed in retirement. He enjoyed flying, talking on his ham radio, woodcarving and camping when he wasn't working. He also volunteered as a courier for WCA Hospital, drove the van for the American Cancer Society and volunteered at St. Susan's Center. In previous years he had attended the former Concordia Lutheran Church. Surviving are his wife of 64 years, Jean H. Milbredt Dean whom he married January 15, 1955, a daughter; Elizabeth M. Dean of Lancaster, PA, a son; Timothy N. (Lorraine) Dean of Falconer, NY, four grandchildren; Danielle Frederick, Matthew (Chelsea) Morrill, William Dean, Rebecca (Devin) Bable, three great grandchildren; Joshua Frederick, Stella Frederick and Ryan Bable. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by a sister, Carol Howard. A memorial service will be held at a later date. As per Bill's wishes, he donated his body to the State University of New York, University of Buffalo Anatomical Gift Program.
