Obituary of Richard F. Filegar

Richard F. Filegar, 79, of 34 Carson Ave. Oil City, PA, formerly of Jamestown and Gerry, NY, passed away on Sunday, January 20, 2019, in the Oakwood Heights Nursing Home, Oil City, PA. A Jamestown area resident for most of his life, he was born October 21, 1939 in Jamestown, NY, a son of the late Forrest Monroe and Alice Haus Filegar. He was a 1957 graduate of the former Bemus Point High School. He was a former member of the Jamestown Free Methodist Church and the Levant Wesleyan Church, where he was active in many church activities. He also attended the Fluvanna Community Church. Before his retirement in 2001, he had been co-owner, with his brother Donald and Jack Twinam, in the operation of Filegar Saw & Tool Company, Inc. He will be remembered as a loving and caring husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend who will be forever missed in their hearts. He enjoyed woodworking, photography and loved riding his motorcycle. Surviving is the love of his life and best friend, his wife of 60 years, Kay E. Doverspike Filegar whom he married October25, 1958, a daughter; Debra K. (George) Wilbur of Oil City, PA, a son: Gregory R. (Sarah) Filegar of Cambridge, MD, six grandchildren; Meagan Weidner, Shawn Barry, Kevin Barry, Alecia Golden, Ben Filegar, Joe Filegar, seven great grandchildren; Ryan and Halle Golden, Aiden, Ryker, Dominic and Samantha Filegar anhd Ellie Barry, a brother; Donald Filegar of Gerry, NY and a sister; Ruth Fritton of Frewsburg, NY. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother Robert Filegar. The funeral will be held at 200 p.m. Thursday in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. Dayle F. Keefer, retired pastor of the Fluvanna Community Church will officiate. Burial will be in the Lake View Cemetery. Friends will be received from 1:00 to 2:00 pm Thursday, one hour prior to the service in the funeral home.
