Obituary of Louis S. Carlo
Louis S. Carlo, 90, of 426 Hunt Road, passed away peacefully on January 24, 2019 at Heritage Green Rehab and Skilled Nursing.
A native of Dunkirk, NY he was born May 23, 1928, a son of the late George and Josephine Ingavo Carlo.
He was a graduate of Jamestown High School and a veteran of the US Army, having served in Germany during the Korean War.
Prior to his retirement in 1987, he was employed by the Prudential Insurance Company as an Agent and later as Sales Manager. From 1947 through 1965, he, his mother and his brother Peter Carlo, owned and operated Carlo's Market and Greenhouses on Foote Ave Extension. In 1966, they converted the site to Boniwood Plaza, which they ran into the late 1990s.
He was a lifelong communicant of St. James Catholic Church and a member of the parish council, the choir and a commentator. His memberships included the Holy Name Society, the Catholic War Veterans, and the Marco Polo Club. He was an officer in the Lions Club, and a 1983 recipient of the Prudential Community Service Award. During the 1970s, he served as an elected officer in the local chapter of the NAACP.
He appeared in several productions at the Jamestown Little Theater, was a member of the Barbershop Harmony Express, and an avid fan of the Buffalo Bills. He enjoyed traveling, gardening and telling jokes. His greatest joy was time spent with family and friends.
Surviving are two sons: George (Laurie) Carlo of Bradenton, FL and Gerald (Mary Ellen) Carlo of Williamsville, NY; grandchildren Andrew (Amanda) Carlo of Seattle, WA, Jennifer Carlo of New York City; Michael (Heidi) Fosburg of North Potomac, MD, Jake Fosburg of Bradenton, FL; brother Peter (Mary Ann) Carlo of Jamestown; sister-in-law and brother-in-law Eva and Leo Perino of Jamestown, as well as additional grandchildren, great grandchildren, cousins, nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Josephine Butera Carlo, whom he married November 12, 1949 and who died February 23, 2014. Together, they were generous supporters of Catholic Charities and St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday, January 28, 2019, in St. James Catholic Church.
Friends will be received from 3-6 p.m. Sunday, January 27th at the Lind Funeral Home where a Christian Wake Service will be led at 5:45 p.m. Sunday.
