Obituary of Phillip L. Torrens

Phillip L. Torrens, formerly of 205 Front St., died Friday, March 15, 2019 at Heritage Park Rehab & Skilled Nursing. He was born September 29, 1952 in Emporia, Kansas and was member of the 1971 graduation class of Wentzville High School in Missouri. Phillip was a twenty year veteran of the U.S. Air Force, beginning in 1975 as an Operations Resource Management Specialist for 2 1/2 years. He was an Aircrew Instructor, Flight Engine Specialist during the next 17 1/2 years and saw service from 1990 to 1991 in support of Operation Desert Storm. He retired in 1992 as Staff Sergeant and Flight Engineer from Little Rock Air Force Base. Following the military, Phillip worked as a Manager for Papa John's Pizza in Arkansas. He then moved to Jamestown, NY and was employed by Cummins Engine and Truck-Lite. Phillip enjoyed fishing, video games and spending time with his grandchildren. He was also known for his adventuresome palate, having experienced foods from all over the world. He will especially be remembered for the memories of picking wild flowers with his daughters and yearly trips to visit his family in Missouri. He was known for being selfless, providing for his family above his own needs. In addition to his son, Christopher Torrens, surviving are three daughters, Jennifer Torrens of Orange Park, FL, Michelle Torrens of Ellington, NY and Julie Torrens of Ashville, NY; twelve grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; two brothers, Roger Torrens of Missouri and John Torrens of Kansas; and many nieces and nephews. Phillip was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Victor and Laney May Hall; and two sisters, Ida Louise Hall and Jona Marie Torrens. A private family graveside service will be held in Missouri. Visitation will not be observed. Memorial donations in memory of Phillip may be made to the American Heart Association.
