Obituary of George R. Hamilton
George R. Hamilton, Sr., 80, of 190 English St., Jamestown, passed away Wednesday, June 5, 2019 at UPMC Chautauqua.
He was born in Jamestown on December 21, 1938, a son of the late Herbert and Virginia Wade Hamilton.
A proud United States veteran, he served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1956 to 1959 and then again in the U.S. Navy from 1968 to 1969.
George attended Jamestown Community College and was employed as a machinist for MRC-SKF, primarily in Falconer, for 40 years, retiring at the age of 74. He also was very active in the UAW Local 338.
He was a member of the AMVETS, the VFW, the Henry Mosher Post #638 American Legion in Falconer, and was always involved in fund raising for numerous Veteran's groups.
George also enjoyed playing pool and socializing with friends.
In addition to his wife, Ressie Hamilton, surviving are seven children: Leonard (Dawn) Hamilton of Jamestown, Robert (Patricia Duncanson) Hamilton of Mobile, AL, Joseph (Angie) Hamilton of Selinsgrove, PA, Tammie (Joel) Ahrens of Dunkirk, James Hamilton of Sugar Grove, PA, SueEllen Hamilton of Jamestown and Carrie Renner of Frewsburg; eighteen grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren; two brothers, Allen Hamilton and David (Mary Jo) Hamilton, both of Frewsburg; and two sisters, Judy Moyer and Alfreda Hamilton, both of Victoria, TX.
Also surviving are three step-daughters: Amy Scroggs Pace (Bradley Sweet) of Dunkirk, Amanda Pace Pike (Jason) of Jamestown and Shawna Pace Medina (Louis) of Buffalo; eleven step-grandchildren and one step- great-granddaughter; and a brother-in-law, Timothy Scroggs of Jamestown.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Jenny Denardi; his second wife of 35 years, Carolyn Ingrao Hamilton in 2006; and a son, George R. Hamilton, Jr. in 1992.
The funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday in the Lind Funeral Home, followed by burial in Veteran's Grove of Lake View Cemetery with full military honors.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home.
