Obituary of Elbert G. Field
Elbert G. "Swede" Field, 84, of Jamestown, NY passed away on July 26, 2019 at UPMC Chautauqua in Jamestown, NY. He was the husband of Sandra L. Field, sharing 46 years of marriage together.
Elbert was born November 5, 1934 in Westfield, Pennsylvania, the son of Alton H. & Mildred Blizzard Field.
He graduated from Jamestown High School in 1952 and enjoyed going to his class reunions.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving from 1957 -1959 and after his discharge had served in the Army Reserves until 1963.
Elbert was a retired truck driver and was previously employed at Firch's Bakery and Dunkirk Ice Cream. After retirement, Elbert worked at CARTS.
He was a member of Holy Apostles Parish at Ss. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, the St. Vincent DePaul Society and the Knights of Columbus. Elbert was also a member of many social clubs, including Moose Club of Jamestown, Lakewood Rod and Gun, War Vets Inc., Celeron American Legion Post #777, and Southern Tier Motorcycle Club. He enjoyed riding his motorcycle, playing cards with his brothers and grandchildren, and spending time with his family.
Elbert is survived by his wife, Sandra L. Iampietro Field, whom he married February 10, 1973, five children, Todd E. Field of Richmond, VA, Bethanne (David) Brown of Jamestown, NY, John W. (Lisa) Vervoort of Brockway, PA, Laura A. (Izzy) Colón of Smithtown, NY, Diana L. (Trey) Tenney of Canandaigua, NY, nine grandchildren, Alyssa L. & David J. Brown, J. Michael & Thomas C. Vervoort, Nikolas M. (Danielle), Gabriella S. & Alexandria I. Colón, Jenna S. & Alexa T. Tenney, two great grandchildren, Sophia & Ella Colón, two brothers, Harry Field, Donald "Jake" (Kathy) Field both of Jamestown, two sister-in-laws, Gertrude Field, Judy Field both of Jamestown, as well as many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four siblings, Alton "Punk" & Dana Field, Angie Wells, and Irene Thompson.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 am Monday in Holy Apostles Parish at Ss. Peter & Paul Catholic Church. The Rev. Dennis W. Mende, pastor will be celebrant. Burial will be in the Holy Cross Cemetery.
Friends will be received from 2-5 pm Sunday in the Lind Funeral Home located at 805 W. Third St., Jamestown, NY, where a Christian Wake Service will be led at 1:45 pm Sunday.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to Holy Apostles Parish, 508 Cherry St., Jamestown, NY 14701 and Alzheimer's Foundation of America, 322 8th Avenue, 16th Floor, New York, NY 10001.
