Doreen and family, you have my sincere sympathy in the loss of Don. He was such a great man and accomplished so many things. Reading about his life was inspirational....the kind of teacher we would all want to have. Please know that you are in our thoughts and prayers. Love, Leila and John

I am so sorry for your loss...may your memories give you peace and joy.
I am Diane, Philip and Olive’s daughter, granddaughter of Eric and Lily.
It was so nice to read the obituary, since I learned lots of things about Don’s life. Having only met him a few times years ago, and being a kid we probably were quickly introduced and shooed our to play or swim!
I especially liked to read that he taught for 34 years (I am retired now, but taught high school Biology here in Iowa for 34 years and coached volleyball, gymnastics, and Scholastic Bowl.). Also, I was a guardian for an Honor Flight for our area about the same time as Don’s... and really enjoyed the experience for the veterans! I wish my dad could have gone. My mom did go and was also overwhelmed by it! (She loved it!)
I miss vacations to Chautauqua Lake and Nana and Grandpa’s house
God’s Blessings on your family!

It’s a sad time knowing I can’t stop by to say hello, but I am so blessed to have known a man like this. Coach Brugge motivated, instructed, and inspired so many of us. I will be forever great full for all time with him.

Family of Mr. Brugge,
When Mr. Brugge first began teaching elementary gym, I was one of several hundred students that had him for gym class. His classes were fun, and we all looked to burn up our extra energy in the gym.
I am so glad you used an early picture of him as it brought back some nice memories of elementary gym classes, like learning to do a frog stand.
I will never forget the time he stood up for me against three bullies in the locker room.
You have my sincere condolences, thoughts and prayers as the road ahead of you is filled with saddened hearts. May you have good memories to cherish, laugh, smile and share.

When Don was coaching Girls' Tennis at JHS, he and I became good friends. He was always a gentleman and his teams during those years reflected his personality. We also played tennis together for many years at the Lakewood Tennis Center. He was such a nice guy, always soft spoken and respectful. I am sure you have many good memories.
