Obituary of Lorraine T. Zanghi
Lorraine T. Zanghi, 89, formerly of 273 Broadhead Ave., Jamestown, passed away at 10:29 am Monday, August 19, 2019, in the Heritage Green Rehab and Skilled Nursing Facility.
An area resident for most of her life, she was born October 21, 1929 in Buffalo, NY, a daughter of the late Walter R. and Helen Czech Teetsel.
Lorraine was a graduate of Nunda High School, Nunda, NY and was a graduate of the Genesee Hospital School of Nursing in Rochester, NY. She also was a graduate of the State University of New York at Geneseo where she earned her teaching degree.
Before her retirement she was employed by the Southwestern Central School District as a registered nurse and also as a teacher for many years. She also was a private duty nurse for several families and in earlier years had worked as a surgical nurse at the former Jamestown General Hospital and WCA Hospital.
She was a communicant of St. James Catholic Church and was a member of the Lakewood Rod & Gun Club, the Lakewood Memorial Post 1286 American Legion Auxiliary, the New York State Nurses Association and was past president of the Chautauqua County Nurses Association.
During her years at Southwestern she developed several health related programs and also was a writer for the Harvard Medical Journal. She also taught her fellow teachers to recognize the symptoms of child abuse.
She will be remembered as a loving and caring mother and grandmother who enjoyed spending time with her family. She was an avid sports fan of the Buffalo Bills, Oakland Raiders and her New York Yankees. She was also a supporter of Maple Grove Dragon Football, which her son Mike was an assistant coach.
Surviving are her children; Kathleen Gooch of Ashville, NY, Michael (Rosalie) Zanghi of Jamestown, four grandchildren; George (Heather) Gooch of Milford, OH, Meghan (Scott) Price of Stokesdale, NC, Karen (Mark Laurrie) Hall of Buffalo, NY, Susan (Brian) Samuelson of Owego, NY, six great grandchildren; Sophia Gooch, Charlotte Gooch, Brianna Samuelson, CJ Samuelson, Matthew Samuelson, Caleb Price, three sisters; Delores (Vincent) Crane of Pittsburgh, PA, Jacqueline Blair of Nunda, NY, Shirley Acker of N. Fort Myers, FL, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Michael Zanghi whom she married September 5, 1953 and who died February 19, 1980 and her son-in-law Thomas Gooch who died November 9, 2016.
A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 am Tuesday, August 27, 2019, in St. James Catholic Church. The Rev. Joseph Gullo will be celebrant. Inurnment will be in the Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
Friends will be received from 2-4 & 7-9 pm Monday, August 26th, in the Lind Funeral Home where a Christian Wake Service will be held at 8:45 pm Monday.
