Obituary of John H. Shafer Sr.

John H. Shafer, Sr., 77, of Celoron, passed away on Tuesday, Sept. 3, 2019 in UPMC Chautauqua surrounded by his loving family. He was born April 10, 1942 in Jamestown, a son of the late Kenneth J. and Marian L. Adams Shafer. Before retiring in 2008, he was employed at Dawson Metal for 32 years. In earlier years, he had worked at the former Dahlstrom Manufacturing. He had many interests including bingo, fishing, hunting, gardening and carpentry. John is survived by three sons: Bart (Stephanie) Shafer, John H. (Paula) Shafer, Jr., Charles Shafer; a daughter, Diana (Brian) Peterson; seven grandchildren: Amber Peterson, Brandon Peterson, Kalene Shafer, Jessica Shafer, Justin Shafer, Zachery Shafer, Jessica Agen; five great grandchildren; three step children: Charlene Power, Bobbie Jo Wendell, Charles Wendell; two sisters: Sandra Shafer- Jackson and Deborah Shafer- Cournean; and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his first wife, Patricia Shafer; his second wife, Marjorie Szarowicz Shafer; a step daughter Lollie Frary; and three brothers: William, David, and Kenneth Shafer, Jr. A Celebration of Life will be held at 11 a.m. on Sept. 14, 2019 in the Watts Flats United Methodist Church. The Rev. Warren VanDewark, pastor, will officiate. Inurnment will be in LakeView Cemetery. Friends will be received in the church following the service.
