So, bye to Jeremy Bruce (#FuckCancer), whom I consider to be someone I was very proud to be able to call 'friend', even though I only spent perhaps 10 days with him.
I met Jeremy in 2015, in Heathrow Airport (either that or Schiphol). We were both waiting for a flight to Kampala, Uganda, and we were both going to volunteer
with Angels of East Africa, at an orphanage in South Sudan. We spent time traveling from Uganda north to South Sudan, through the border, and then about 4 or 5 days
at the orphanage there, and then another few days back in Uganda, at the farm. Jeremy is/was an immediately likeable person, with a huge goofy, welcoming grin that said
to everyone "yeah, let's be friends"; he was one of the kindest, gentlest, and giving people i've met. He would have been about 31 at the time, and I would have been about 52. We worked on wiring, cleaning a library floor, painting
the library walls, fixing 'stuff', playing soccer and other games with the kids, along with a crew of about 10 others. I learned he had spent 2 tours of duty as a Marine, in Iraq, in Fallujah,
that he was injured (I think his hip was shot out) and had to 'retire' from the Marines (althouh I suspect Marines never retire), that he helped out on the relief mission in New Orleans following Katrina; I have
nothing but the greatest respect for those who give up everything to serve their country, and meeting Jeremy reinforced my opinion on this. All this before he was 30! I found him to be incredibly inspiring.
After South Sudan, I went back to Canada, and back to work; Jeremy continued on traveling the world. He would post great travel vignettes from time to time, from Korea, or Thailand,
or Austria (visiting Arnold Schwarzeneggars home); these were all great stories, and the central theme was the people he met on his adventures, not the places.
I'ld read these out to my wife, and she would say: You know, you should just arrange to meet him somewhere and just get on a plane and go.
And of course I never did, although came close when we were going to try and meet up for the Desert Trip festival in Indio, 2016 - couldn't get the tickets.
I don't pretend to be a close friend of Jeremy's because I am not, although I think he would consider everyone he's met in his life as a 'close' friend.
This is my way of saying goodbye to someone I truly would have liked to have known better.
I know he was loved by many, and will be missed by more.

Jeremy was one of the first friends I made in Denver. I met him at a bar one night where I was working. He was always fun to be around and full of awesome stories about his life. He was a wonderful man who did so many great things. I am very saddened to hear of his loss but very grateful that he was my friend. My heart goes out to his family and all those who loved him. He is traveling a new part of this universe now and I look forward to hearing about all of his stories when we one day meet again. May you all find strength and peace in this difficult time

There are so many fond memories I have of growing up with Jeremy and Jasen! We lived 2 doors down from them and always had fun hanging out together. Jeremy's laughter was contagious and he had the best sense of humor...and he was a bit of a firecracker! He was not just a neighbor, but an incredible friend to all of us. I know that he has left this life to start a new journey, but the world is a more solemn place without him in it. Jeremy, God has called you home and I know you are seeing our world from a completely different aspect. Your adventures will continue, and all the lives you have touched while you were here are better because of the impact you made. Thank you for your light, laughter, and your dedication to our country and those who were less fortunate. You are amazing!!!
My love and deepest condolences to Beth, Dave, Jasen, Kasey, and the Gustafson and Bruce families.
Love always, your neighbor,
Jenifer and family

I will always remember Jeremy's beautiful eyes and lashes! And of course, his charming smile! I enjoyed his sense of humor and admired his brave spontaneity with all his world travels. I will treasure the postcards from his travels. He was a wonderful friend and "brother" to my son. He fought a hard battle - a warrior to the end! May he find peace as he begins his new journey.
He will be missed terribly- my sincere condolences to all of his family.

My son served with your son in Iraq. I never had the pleasure of meeting your son but his obituary and the kind words my son has to say about Jeremy says it all. What a great loss for your family and all humanity. A life well lived. You must be so proud. I am so sorry for your loss.

To Jeremy's family,
I wish that words had more power in this circumstance.
Jeremy and I knew each other through CU Denver...in fact, I swear we have a photo together at the post-ceremony reception, but I can't find it. Anyway, he had such a great impact on me. That he considered me a friend is a true, true honor because is just one of those people whose approval really means something. I wish I had done more for him over the past year. I've never met someone so authentically themselves as he was, nor as giving. The world is better because of him.
I so wish I could be there in person to give my respects. My prayer is that you're comforted by the love that so many people have for him; and thank you, sincerely, for sharing him with us.
