I was shocked to hear of the passing of Bruce. I would see him most mornings at the Post Office. He always had a smile on his face and a great outlook. I remember working with him while I was a member in the Fluvanna Fire Department as well. He will be sadly missed. Bemus Point, as well as his family, lost a great man. Rest in peace my friend. Your job is done here on earth.

Jo Ann and I were shocked to read Bruce's obituary in the Post Journal. he had been a lively presence at the Lawson Center.
For the historical record I video recorded two or three panel discussions which included Bruce's comments and memories. I appreciated the energy he brought to the table.

Jill and Kurt,
Bruce was one of the first people to welcome me to Bemus Point. Many great conversations were with him as he watched me move along in my life as I gained a wife and then children. I remember when he moved into another house and he had me do logging there. He even came to tour the sawmill in Bradford where the logs went.
I am glad to have know your Dad and that our lives crossed paths and enjoyable times were shared.
Your Dad was a good man.

Bruce was a special person by far. The mold was broken after Bruce. Great character, wonderful sense of humor and so very easy to talk with. He was a part of Bemus Point that his space will not be easily filled.
Our sincere condolences to Jill, Dave and Kurt and to his family. He truly will be missed.

Without Bruce Bemus won't be the same. He's drive up and down Lakeside many times a day in his trucks, mostly heading to the Bemus Inn to have a coffee, breakfast or lunch. When they weren't open I'd see him cutting the shrubs or going inside to make himself a coffee. He had a key! Bruce was notoriously left handed. So, as a high school basketball player I always wanted him guarding me, because he was very easy to get around once one figured that out (or so one's long ago memories seem to recall.) I'm not sure Mel Lewellyn ever did teach him he had a right hand too. But most every time the fire siren blew, Bruce - when he was younger - would be soon to the fire station. Later he became part of the fire 'police'.
Suzanne and I are sad to hear of his death. He'll be sorely missed.

I am very sorry for your lose. Bruce was one of my favorite people in the world. He always greeted you with a smile. He would always tease, but he new how to get away with it. His smile was infectious, and his laugh will be missed.
I feel very fortunate for just knowing Bruce. He was the calm among the storm.
He will be missed in the community and personally by so many.

Sorry to hear of the passing of Bruce. I would stop and talk to him every year at the art show when we came up from Florida on vacation.Enjoyed are conversations. We came later this year so we missed the show. I always loved his woodworking and never bought one of his cutting boards, but wish I had. My grandfather and my Dad were both woodworkers. Again my condolences from my whole family.God bless and hopefully we will meet in Bemus someday. Your friend, Brad Eckwahl
