Obituary of Joseph Alphonso Rizzo

Joseph Alphonso Rizzo, 79, of Jamestown, formerly of Savannah, GA, died Tuesday December 17, 2019, in Cleveland Clinic. A Jamestown native, he was born September 28, 1940, a son of the late Alphonso and Anna Corio Rizzo. He was a 1958 graduate of Jamestown High School. Prior to his retirement he was a self-employed barber and hairstylist at various locations in Jamestown and Savannah. While living in Savannah he was a member of the Knight of Columbus. He enjoyed golfing and participating in the Italian-American Golf Tournament annually. He was also an avid fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers. Later in life spent time going to the races with friends who owned horses. Surviving are two sons Joseph Rizzo of Tampa, FL and David (Patricia) Rizzo of Jamestown; a grandson Nicholas Joseph Rizzo of Jamestown; two brothers Jack (Rosemarie) Rizzo of Jamestown and Anthony (Charlene) Rizzo of North Carolina and several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Virginia Stefanelli, whom he married in 1961 and who died September 5, 2000. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday in the Lind Funeral Home. Deacon Michael Lennon will officiate. Inurnment will be in Holy Cross Cemetery.
