Obituary
Obituary of Duane E. Arnold
It is with much sadness we announce the passing of Duane Arnold, our loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend to all whose lives he touched. He left this world peacefully Saturday, January 4, 2020 following a brief illness.
Duane E. "DA" Arnold, Sr., 85, a Jamestown resident most of his life, was born in Jamestown on October 7, 1934, the son of the late Dewey Edward and Helen Anderson Arnold. He was a 1952 graduate of Jamestown High School and attended Jamestown Community College.
He was a proud US Army veteran and Staff Sergeant, serving from July 22, 1957 to July 14, 1959 with an additional two years active and two years inactive duty in the Reserves. Duane was also a life member of the VFW Post 3865 in Kaimuki, Honolulu Hawaii.
Before his retirement, he was a 35 year employee of American Sterilizer of Erie, PA at the Amsco – Jamestown Division on Airport Hill until the factory's closing in 1996.
"DA" enjoyed traveling, bowling, playing cards, puzzles, dogs, and sports. He could always be found at his children's and grandchildren's sporting events. He was a diehard Pittsburgh Steelers and Pirates fan. He also possessed a great sense of humor.
Surviving are his wife of 62 years, Evelyn Birath Arnold whom he married July 15, 1957 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Falconer, NY; and four children: Carol (James) Breakey of Cedar Grove, NC, Duane (Linda) Arnold of Clermont, FL, Cathy Arnold (William Rice) of West Henrietta, NY and Cindy (Jerry) Pardue of Jamestown. Also surviving are nine grandchildren: Mariah (Brent) Cope, Alicia Breakey (Aaron Kupperman), Morgan Breakey, Jennifer (Aaron) Wise, Shannon Arnold, Sean (Arianne) Arnold, Mitchell Rice, Jesse Pardue and Sarah Pardue; ten great-grandchildren: Lily & Kane Jackson, Ava & Eloise Cope, Margot Breakey Kupperman, Ezra Breakey, Brandon & Jaime Wise, Hunter Arnold and Jeremy Pardue; and a sister, Joann Huntington of Jamestown.
The family would like to thank Dr. McKimm, Dr. Igboeli, Dr. Sapple and all of the nurses on 3-D, 4-D and 5-D at UPMC Chautauqua for their exceptional care of Duane.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. Visitation will not be observed.
Memorials may be made to a Veteran's Organization of choice; or to the American Cancer Society, 13 Beech St., Johnson City, NY 13790.
