Playing "Racko" at her kitchen table, skinny-dipping at night in her pool, watching Mary Ellen & her neighbors play horseshoes or pinochle, sitting with my friends on her glider, the nightly game of "Kick-the-Can" around her house. . . . some of my fondest childhood memories were created because of Mary Ellen’s welcoming (although no-nonsense!) spirit & great sense of humor. We were always welcome, day or night, and her home became a magnet & hangout for us neighborhood kids. If we were ever a nuisance — which I’m sure we were! — she never showed it. My deepest condolences to all the family.
