Obituary of Hazel I. Frye
Hazel I. Frye, 83, of 6497 Eiden Road, Mayville, died Friday January 17, 2020, in UPMC Chautauqua.
A native of Valir, PA, she was born February 29, 1936, in Grange, PA, a daughter of the late Clair and Minnie Craft Dobson.
Prior to her retirement she was employed by Ethan Allen for 30 years as a mold sander.
Hazel lived for her family and for helping everyone she knew through being a caregiver and putting the needs of others ahead of her own. A wonderful cook, she fed many mouths over the years and took great pride in that. She was a sweet, supportive, hands-on grandma and great grandma. A kind soul and creator of fun, who was known for building snowmen, swimming, making cookies or attending sporting events for her grandkids. Hazel was always there. She enjoyed camping on the river with her husband, bonfires, cookouts, scrapbooking, sewing quilts and pillows, playing cards, solving puzzles and attending bluegrass festivals.
A clever and talented woman, she could find solutions for anything that was needed. Her love of others also included animals. Caring for grand-dogs, horses, feeding the birds (even the crows got hotdogs) and most importantly her kittens Roxy and Reesey.
Her life was not always easy, but she carried on courageously with a sweet smile, bravely inspiring all who knew her. She was most content when she was with her family.
Surviving are her husband of 64 years Charles Frye, whom she married October 27, 1955; three grandchildren Jennifer (Spencer) Carlson of Ashville, Justin (Kaitlyn) Frye of Sherman and Julie (Steven) Barrett of Panama; four great grandchildren Eli Barrett, Callie Barrett, Gannon Carlson and Lainee Frye; daughter in law Shelly Frye of Mayville; two sisters Dortha Troup of Greenhurst and Merry (Merle) Frye of Ashville; a brother Lewis Dobson of Emporium. PA and several nieces and nephews who considered her a second mother.
Besides her parents she was preceded in death by a son Stephen Frye; two sisters Marie Babyak and Evalo Burkett and two brothers Howard "Snuffy" Dobson and Daniel Dobson.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Lind Funeral Home.
Burial will be in Panama Greenwood Cemetery.
Friends will be received from 4-7 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home.
