Nancy Harner

Obituary of Nancy R. Harner

Nancy R. Harner, 81, of 225 Indiana Avenue, died Friday January 31, 2020, in her home surrounded by her family after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer's disease. A native of Westfield, NY, she was born April 5, 1938, a daughter of the late Joseph and Charlotte Stebbins Ricketts. She was a 1956 graduate of Westfield Academy. Prior to her retirement, she was employed by Dr. Harry Glatz as a dental assistant for many years. She earlier had worked at First Baptist Church as a bookkeeper. She was a longtime member of Christ First United Methodist Church and its United Methodist Women. In addition, she was a member of the Doll Club Study Group. After surviving Polio as a teen, Nancy always reached out to help others. A card, meal or her warm smile were never far from those in need. Nancy's many friends and neighbors became more like family while enjoying holiday gatherings, church events, senior bus trips, shopping and traveling adventures, and weekly dinner groups. Distance never broke the lifelong friendships she built. Nancy never missed an opportunity to cheer on her children or grandchildren at a school sporting or musical event. She loved all things pink, collecting dolls and Beanie Babies, but most of all she loved her family. The family wishes to thank HOSPICE caregivers Kris, Charcy, Nicole AM, Nicole PM, Michelle and Heidi who supported and loved Nancy. Surviving are her husband of 57 years Richard Harner, whom she married January 18, 1963; three children Tamsin (Thomas) Pope of Jamestown, Richard Harner of Lakewood and Melissa (Louis) Deppas of Lakewood; seven grandchildren Brynne, Morgan and Sydney Deppas, Christopher, Marisa and Brandon Pope and Zachary Harner; a sister Sally (Rufus) Holfelt of Sharpsburg, MD; a brother Michael (Kathy) Ricketts of Mayville and several very special nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews. The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in Christ First United Methodist Church. Rev. Douglas Knopp, pastor emeritus will officiate. Those attending the service are encouraged to wear pink to celebrate Nancy's life. Burial will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery. Friends will be received from 4-7 p.m. Thursday in the Lind Funeral Home. The family suggests memorials be made to Chautauqua Hospice and Palliative Care, 20 W. Fairmount Ave, Lakewood, NY 14750 or Christ First United Methodist Church, 663 Lakeview Ave, Jamestown, NY 14701. You may leave words of condolence at www.lindfuneralhome.com.
