Obituary of Merritt N. Meabon

Merritt N. "Stub" Meabon, 85, formerly of Stowe Street, died Wednesday April 8, 2020, in Heritage Park Rehab and Skilled Nursing. He was born February 18, 1935, in Warren, PA, the son of the late James and Lois McAllister Meabon. He was a 1954 graduate of Youngsville High School. He was a veteran of the US Army serving from 1955-1958. He loved being a truck driver and was employed for various companies throughout his career, the last being Roadway. Following his retirement he drove for CARTS. He was a member of Lakeside Bible Chapel, Jamestown Consistory, Jamestown Elks Lodge and Mount Moriah Lodge #145 F&AM serving as past monarch and doctor of smiles. Through his work many children in need received free dental care. He enjoyed spending time with his family and volunteered as the assistant basketball coach at Bethel Baptist Christian Academy for several years. Surviving are his wife the former Marianne Hoover, whom he married April 18, 1959; two children Dr. Kimberly Meabon of Jamestown and John (Kathy) Meabon of Rochester; three grandchildren Matthew (Angela) Meabon and Paul (Caitlin) Meabon both of Rochester and Sarah Meabon of Colorado; five great grandchildren Ella, Noah, Leah, Ezra and Laynie and a brother James Meabon of Warren. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by a brother Thom Meabon. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Inurnment will be in Sanford Cemetery, Grand Valley, PA.
