Obituary of JoAnn M. Carlson

JoAnn M. Carlson, 82, of Jamestown, NY, passed away at 9:45 am Monday, April 20, 2020, in the Warren Manor, Warren, PA. A lifelong area resident, she was born June 25, 1937 in Jamestown, NY, a daughter of the late Walter S. and Cecil Vanderhoff Finn, Sr. JoAnn was a graduate of Jamestown High School and was a graduate of the Jamestown School of Practical Nursing. She earned her nursing license in 1977. She and her family were so proud of the fact that she went back to school while raising five children and earned her degree in nursing. Over the years she had been employed at Fenton Park Nursing Home, the offices of Dr. Bumbalo and Dr. Weisha, W.C.A. Hospital Pediatric Department and the Resource Center. She was a member of the Christ First United Methodist Church and was a volunteer for the food pantry at Christ First. She also enjoyed volunteering at the Chautauqua County Humane Society. Surviving is a daughter; Dianne Carlson Shagla; and a son, Duane R. Carlson, Jr. (Amy Russo), both of Jamestown, several grandchildren, and a special great granddaughter, Maddie Thorn, and her brother, Walter (Donna) Finn of Westchester, PA. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Duane R. Carlson, Sr. whom she married July 2, 1955 and who died January 7, 2019, two sons, Daryl R. Carlson who died April 28, 2009, Dustin Jay Carlson who died April 5, 2015 and a daughter, Debbie Jo Seyler who died June 21, 2018. Due to restrictions on public gatherings caused by the coronavirus outbreak, a private family service will be held. Visitation will not be observed. Burial will be in the Lake View Cemetery. A memorial service will also be held at a later date. Memorials may be made to the Chautauqua County Humane Society, 2825 Strunk Rd.
