Obituary of Grace E. Young
Grace Elizabeth Young, 88, of 3881 Dutch Hollow Rd. Jamestown, NY, peacefully entered the gates of Heaven April 20, 2020, at Heritage Green Rehab and Skilled Nursing Facility.
An area resident for most of her life, she was born May 4, 1931 in Union City, PA, a daughter of the late Frederick and Helen Murphy Still.
Grace was a 1949 graduate of the Shortsville High School and earned her nursing education from the Meadville City Hospital School of Nursing in 1952.
In her earlier years, she was employed as a registered nurse at the former Jamestown General Hospital working in the Labor and delivery unit. She also worked at the Warren State Hospital, Warren, PA.
Grace will be lovingly remembered for the dedication she had for her family, her quick witted humor, and her loyalty to all. Grace's greatest joy in life was being a mother. She devoted her life to being the heart of her family and spending time with her husband, children, and grandchildren. Grace was an avid reader and writer. She enjoyed writing short stories and poetry, spending time at Chautauqua Institution, gardening and family vacations to the mountains and beach. She will be sadly missed by all who knew her.
She was a communicant of Holy Apostles Parish at SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church for over 60 years and was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
Surviving are her four children; Lance (Jackie Gothard) Young and Nancy (Joseph) Johnson both of Greensboro, NC, Julie (Lance) Schamback of Advance, NC, Karen (Stephen) LaTone of Bemus Point with whom Grace made her home for many years. 11 grandchildren; Kelly Benamati, Lance (Amanda) Young both of Greensboro, NC, Catherine (Timothy) Stahlman, Sarah (Matthew) Wilkins both of Jamestown, Kyle Buffone of Norfolk, VA, Adam Buffone of Goldsboro, NC, Rachel (John) Fredrickson of Bemus Point, NY, Meghan (Jonathan Franco) LaTone of Boston, MA, Molly LaTone of Jamestown, Joseph Johnson, Ashleigh (Kyle) Jackle both of Greensboro, NC, 15 great grandchildren and a brother, John (Patricia) Still of Union City, PA.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 63 years, Quentin W. Young whom she married October 16, 1954 and who died June 9, 2018. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Michael Still.
A private funeral service will be held at the convenience of the family and a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Holy Apostles Parish at Ss. Peter & Paul Catholic Church. Burial will be in the Holy Cross Cemetery. Visitation will not be observed. A celebration of Grace's life will be held for family and friends at a later date.
