Mildred, grandmother of my children, what a wonderful and fun lady! Sleep for a little while...you may be separated from us, but, nothing, not even death can separate you from God (Romans 8:35-39).
Love,
Della

Aunt Mildred was full of love and wisdom. She said if you get into a fight, always have a equalizer, she was a firm believer in that,I would listen to her many stories of her “ equalizers one of which was a baseball bat that was by her side when she would sit on moms porch, you can imagine what else she had ,and your guess would be right !! When we were younger we couldn’t call her or any adult by their first name,as she said..Put a handle on it, which meant we had to say Aunt,Uncle Mr or Mrs it’s called respect.Raelynn my daughter remembered her with this story.. my mom (Annie Grissom) had eaten peanut M&Ms but mom didn’t eat the peanuts she would put them in a small glass jar, when Aunt Mildred came over ( She loved peanuts) she poured them in her hand salted them and ate them,Raelynn couldn’t help but tell Aunt Mildred what she was eating, Aunt Mildred said “ that’s ok she’s my sister ...

Grandma will be missed! Funny moments and great memories were always a plus when seeing and talking to her. Living to 101 is a wonderful accomplishment the Bible calls such ones more than “especially strong” but it’s encouraging to know 101 is no comparison to forever.(Psalms 90:10) I look forward to the time when grandma will live again and never have to fear death or aging (acts 24:15, 1 Corinthians 15:26). She was truly unique and will be on our hearts!

My heart is very heavy with the loss of my beautiful, wonderful, and unparelled grandma. SHE WAS THE BEST!
My grandma and I were extremely close, and wherever she went I did not hesitate to follow...nothing could keep me away from her! Grandma was my mentor, my shoulder to lean or cry on, my family historian, my life coach and advisor, my relationship counselor (although most times guidance was questionable), my comedian, my patient listener, my rescuer (even when my parents justifably planned to discipline or punish me), my #1 cheerleader and unwavering supporter (even when I was wrong), my confidant, my inspiration, and the list just goes on and on...Most importantly, grandma was my loyal friend - sort of my unsung hero - truly someone I could depend on no questions asked.
My grandma had it going on until the very end. Almost all her faculties remained intact, and her memory was still unbelievably accurate. Only her hearing was on the decline (I mean, she was only 101-years old!), but, of course, that didn't stop me from calling her regularly (at times practically losing my voice just simply trying to tell her who I was on the other end of the phone)!
For the past two years, I have written to grandma EVERY week to ensure communication was ongoing with no gaps. She absolutely LOVED receiving my letters and showed me the massive pile she carefully kept protected during my last visit.
When my two daughters and I visited grandma this past November, as always, we had such a great time reflecting on happy times. We also discussed the future, and the heartwarming Scriptual promises in store in spite of current global chaos as the Bible foretold. During times like this, I find the most comfort when I reflect on God's Word, the Bible, and His guarantee that we will (without a doubt) get to see our dear loved ones again who have asleep in death. At Revelation 21:4, Jehovah God promises us, "He (God) will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and DEATH WILL BE NO MORE, neither will mourning, nor outcry, nor pain be anymore, the former things have passed away."
I will miss Katie Mildred Leeper Avery Cunningham dearly and will forever hold close the endless memories.I sincerely LOVE you grandma and look forward to seeing you again real soon!
