Sally and I used to date in college. I got to know her in one of my classes. We hit it off right away. We were both taking martial arts I was a little more advanced than her. We shared many times together both quiet on the lake and in the lake she almost drowned me a couple times she was like a tuna I couldn't keep up with her. Sailboat was parked out a little too far for me. We kept in touch all through college I went to Colorado and came back to finish up at RIT. We planned on getting together several times I can't remember if we did but I always loved her and always wanted to get back to see her. Last year I looked her up and I went to the farm to see her and I asked a person I want to see Sally Lawson and she was in the barn. When she came up to me I asked her if she knew who I was has she shook her head no and I handed her this picture and when she looked at it and read the back she put her arms around me and cried and totally soaked the front of my sweatshirt. I said Sally I see you in there I still love you and I'm here for you I'll be back to help you out we always said if one of us needs each other we'd always be there for one another. As I was looking up to go see her again I came up on the obituary and immediately choke me up and brought a tear several tears to my eyes. I had plans someday to meet up with her and start where we left off. Life is beautiful and wonderful but sometimes there's things that get in our way that we have to overcome. I will miss her and think of her often as I did in the past. I love you Sally rest in peace

Dear Lawson family, I am so very sad to hear of Sally's passing. I knew her well when she lived in NYC in the 1980s. She was the best Central Park Ranger and an impressive naturalist. She was brilliant, beautiful and fun to spend time with. Sincerely, Tony Askin

Sally was a dear friend for a very long time. Our friendship began in 6th grade in Bemus Point when we were in the same class together and continued through junior high, high school and into adulthood. Highlights that stand out are Friday night sleepovers to watch Star Trek together, boat rides in the Lyman, dirt bike tours around the neighborhood, and fires in the fireplace. She is the only person I know who could keep a raisin intact in her mouth for a half an hour! Sally's curiosity and quest for knowledge was unstoppable. She kept a 3 by 5 card with information on each book she read to have at her fingertips should she need it again! When Sally came back to Western New York State she made sure we reconnected. My family and I spent many memorable times with Sally and Ron at their home, in her woods, in our woods, and at our home. A classic visit was the day she backed her truck up to the house and unloaded a parakeet, two bunnies, several ducks and a goat, to which I said no. My last visit in person with Sally on one of my visits to Bemus Point included planting tomatoes, covering the garden with mulch, traveling to Amish country to visit her craft people and a delicious dinner of vegetables from her garden. The commentary on the countryside as we drove along was always enlightening. Thank you Sally for being a beacon of liveliness and sharing yourself so freely. You will always be my dear friend. I love you.

Farewell and Godspeed to my companion of 30 years and wife of nearly 20. You made me promise to outlive you and I did, but I really wish you had made it harder to do! You were so competitive, the cut-throat cribbage games, the bailetti races for the first espresso in the morning, always all in for the first and the best. We had good times and we had struggles, housefulls of Christmas guests and cars in the ditch. You married me so I could be your anchor, you divorced me because I was your millstone.
I continue to take care of the things you left, your European copper beech is slow but sure, and the kousa dogwood is becoming a showpiece. The dawn redwood you gave me for my birthday had a really tough time with that cold snap in May but it looks like will be OK. I’ve been able to keep the few pathetic orchids you left behind alive and they all bloom except that Australian oncidium, but I just don’t give up. The night-blooming Ceres are beautiful and reliable bloomers and the bird of paradise almost always blooms in late winter. After years of struggle the staghorn fern is probably the happiest plant here. The raised bed gardens we built in the back yard are looking good with some help from friends and neighbors and a deeper respect and appreciation for native plants.
Those trained gorillas (AKA loggers) who decimated your woodlot a few years ago cut down the hemlock we planted on Earth Day 1987 in order to make a log landing area, so I will plant a replacement in your memory. I hope you have now found the peace that always seemed to elude you throughout your years with us. It seems that love is a perennial, not an annual.

Decades ago I worked at a local Jewelry store, Aurum Jewelers. Once a week or so, Sally would stop in. Every single time she came here n, she increased my knowledge on gem stones. She was always funny, kind and patient! Rip, dear Sally

Bruce and Family,
We lived next door to your family for a time in Driftwood. Sally and I were great friends and that continued into our high school days. I always enjoyed sleep overs at you home. Your mom, Gussie, was so gracious and welcoming.
May Sally rest peacefully along with Ann and your parents.
