Obituary of Constance H. Swanson

Constance H. Swanson, 81, of Ashville, NY, passed away on Saturday, October 31, 2020, in UPMC Hamot Medical Center, Erie, PA, with her family by her side. She was born on the family farm on December 10, 1938 in Dewittville, Town of Stockton, NY, a daughter of the late Edward S. and Josephine Rhinehart Hickok. Connie was a 1956 graduate of Jamestown High School, a 1958 graduate of Jamestown Community College and she graduated from the Killmore Memorial Lab in Binghamton, NY as a medical technologist and a member of The American Society of Medical Technologists. Before her retirement in 2007, she was a Histotechnologist at the Children's Hospital in Pittsburgh, PA where became the manager of the lab. Over the years, she had also worked as a Medical Technologist at the Lexington Clinic in Lexington, KY and the Beaver Valley Medical Center in Beaver, PA. She was a member of the Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, Lakewood and involved in their Angel Circle, the Norden Women's Club, Chautauqua Lake Investment Club, attended the Scandinavian culture days and volunteered at the Swedish Summer Festival. In earlier years was active as a Girl Scout leader. She loved her home on Chautauqua Lake where she enjoyed boating, reading and bird watching. She also loved gardening, cooking, baking and oil painting. Surviving are her husband of 59 years, Russell E. Swanson whom she married January 28, 1961, two daughters; Susan (Brian) Mlacker of Jamestown, Jill (Brian) Rexroad of Oak Ridge, NJ, a son; Scott (Jeanine) Swanson of Cranberry Township, PA, six grandchildren; Heather (Justin) Conti of Kennedy, NY, Brett (Brittany) Mlacker of Jamestown, Rachel and Caralyn Rexroad both of Oak Ridge, NJ, Allen (Amanda) Swanson of Mars, PA, Adam (Sarah Brasko) Swanson of Brighton Township, PA, eight great grandchildren and several cousins. She was also very close to her extended family which includes her brothers and sisters in law, Barbara and David Chall, Marcia and Reinold Nelson, Jerry and Kathy Swanson, as well as her many nieces and nephews. Friends will be received on a walk through basis, according to Covid-19 restrictions, from 5-8 pm Tuesday in the Lind Funeral Home, 805 West Third St. Jamestown, NY 14701. Social distancing will be observed and masks must be worn while inside the funeral home. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 am Wednesday in the Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, Lakewood. The Rev. Timothy Hoyer, pastor will officiate. Burial will be following the service in the Sunset Hill Cemetery.
