Obituary of Winifred N. Anderson

Winifred N. Anderson, 90, of Bemus Point, went to heaven to be with God, Thursday October 29, 2020, in UPMC Presbyterian Hospital, Pittsburgh, PA. An area resident all her life, she was born December 13, 1929, in Jamestown, a daughter of the late Thomas and Gladys Waterhouse Naughton. She was a graduate of Lakewood High School. She managed accounts for the Westgate Building which she owned and operated with her late husband. She was a member of First Covenant Church and it's Hope Circle. Her other memberships include the Marvin Community House, Mozart Club, Green Thumb Garden Club, Norden Club, Fine Arts Travel Club, New York State Morgan Horse Association and was a former board member of Chautauqua County Humane Society. Winnie had several interests throughout her life. She was a dance instructor in her earlier years and a longtime opera lover, avid reader and Buffalo Bills fan. She adored animals both large and small, raising and showing horses and through her volunteer work at the Humane Society. As a travel enthusiast she took great pleasure in exploring foreign lands and appreciating the diversity and beauty of overseas cultures. Outside of Bemus Winnie had a tremendous fondness for India. She always said the sights and sounds of India spoke to her and to it she returned on multiple occasions. She was a loyal friend and treasured the close relationships from which she drew great comfort and strength. Above all else Winnie cherished her family. She enjoyed having afternoon tea on her front porch and watching her grandchildren grow up. Surviving are two daughters Eugenia Aubel of Canfield, OH and Valerie (Brian) Dugan of Sleepy Hollow, NY; four grandchildren Dylan and Ashley Aubel and Liam and Owen Dugan and a brother Tom Naughton of Penfield, NY. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Clayton Anderson, whom she married September 2, 1961 and who died August 11, 2019; a son Clayton Anderson, Jr. and a sister Margery Nordstrand. Due to the restrictions of the Covid pandemic a private service will be held for the immediate family. Burial will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery. Visitation will not be observed. As a long standing supporter of the following organizations and with her admiration for the wonderful works they do, memorials may be made to Chautauqua County Humane Society, 2825 Strunk Road, Jamestown, NY 14701 and to First Covenant Church to be used for God's Pantry, 520 Spring Street, Jamestown, NY 14701.
