This is way past due but Mr. Nelson was on my mind and I wanted to send my condolences. He was my 3rd grade teacher in 1973. I know I drove him nuts by finishing my work before everyone else and jumping off my desk. I probably had ADHD before it was cool . I was abused as a child but Mr. Nelson was also so kind and made me enjoy going to school. I had 5 children by the time I was 27 and after getting all into school, I went to college and received a teaching degree at the age of 42. I aspired to be like Mr. Nelson. I am now 58 and I still think fondly of Mr. Nelson. The world needs more people like him.

Dear Mrs. Nelson and Family,
I was lucky enough to be a student teacher in Roger's classroom in the mid 80s. He taught me so much. He was patient, kind, firm, understanding, and funny. I have always felt so blessed having him as a mentor and role model. My condolences to your family. May you find comfort in the wonderful memories that you must have. God bless, Ann Bloomquist Stearns

I was so sorry to hear of Mr. Nelson's passing. Whenever he came in to see me for an eye exam, he always said "Call me Roger". It's very hard to call your favorite teacher by his first name, especially when I was only 8 years old in third grade at Bush school. Without fail, every morning I would bound into the room and state, "Never fear, Henry's here!" I was one of those students who never missed class. One day I fell ill and had to miss school. When I returned, Mr Nelson had wrote me a poem. My mom found it in my school archives and it goes as follows:
"Never fear, Henry's here."
Is all I heard
throughout the year.
Until today.
No early morning greeting,
No cheerful Monday meeting,
No Henry bounding in the room.
Henry's home in bed,
"Henry's sick", his mother said-
"But he'll be back real soon."
Lo and behold, Henry's back,
He finally got out of the sack,
And once again he's singing his tune:
"Never fear - Henry's here!"

I was very sorry to hear of Uncle Roger's passing. I will always remember him as a soft spoken, kind and loving uncle. I'm sure he and Dad are having a lovely glass of wine and listening to music!

Deann, Alex, Christina, and Johanna,
I am so sorry for the loss of Roger. I will always remember him quietly reading in your living room. Although I didn’t know him as a teacher, I’ve seen many, many comments about how wonderful a teacher he was. My thoughts and prayers are with your family,
Michelle (Leising) Rhodes.

I was so sad to hear this news of Mr. Nelson’s passing. He was my all time favorite teacher! He was an excellent teacher and this was his true calling as he was perfect for it. He was a friend of my mother and always asked about my brother and I when he’d see her. He was such a caring person. I’m so sorry for your loss. The world has lost a great man. Thoughts and prayers to his family.

We hope and pray The Holy Spirit will comfort you, and may you have peace knowing Roger is with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
With Our Deepest Sympathy,
Rich & Nicky Kimball

I am so very sorry for your loss. Mr. Nelson was a remarkable person who always made me smile and remembered me back from my Bush School days. Whenever I would see him he would bring up a wonderful memory of days gone by and it would always make me laugh. Truly a remarkable man who will be sadly missed.

Being a proud former student of Bush School, EVERY kid wanted Mr. Nelson as their teacher! I was lucky enough to have him as my reading teacher in the 3rd grade. He would always "sing" my name when he would see me, even as an adult when I'd see him around. He even remembered my mother who he would see at a store and always ask about my brother, who was his student several years prior to myself, and I. An excellent teacher and amazing human being, always making others feel special and laugh, he was greatly appreciated and admired and will be dearly missed.
