Obituary of Jean S. Ostrander

Jean S. Ostrander, 95, of Jamestown, NY, passed away at 10:39 am Sunday, November 22, 2020 in UPMC Chautauqua. A lifelong area resident, she was born August 22, 1925 in Brocton, NY, a daughter of the late Dana R. and Myra Martin Strickland. She was a graduate of Jamestown High School. Before her retirement she was employed for many years as a bookkeeper for the Jamestown Iron Works. In earlier years she had worked for the former Jamestown Stamp Company. Jean was a longtime active member of the First Baptist Church in Jamestown where she was involved in many activities of the church including the Circle 2 women's group. In previous years she was active at the Lakewood United Methodist Church when she lived in Lakewood with her longtime friend Ruth Emery. She enjoyed her many years of bowling with her lifelong friends. She and her husband Bob enjoyed many years of traveling during their retirement and she was also a wonderful homemaker and housewife who enjoyed taking care of her home and being outside. Surviving are her husband, C. Robert Ostrander whom she married May 17, 1975 and her little blind dog "Scarlet". She is also survived by many nieces and nephews that are scattered throughout the country. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Florence C. Skinner, Cora J. Thelander and two brothers, Gilbert R. and Russell W. Strickland. The family will receive friends on a walk through basis from 1-3 pm Friday in the Lind Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Sunset Hill Cemetery. A memorial service will be held at a later date when family and friends can travel from out of town. Due to covid-19 restrictions, social distancing will be observed and masks must be worn while inside the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Chautauqua County Humane Society, 2825 Strunk Rd.
