Obituary of Carlyle L. Coons

Carlyle L. "CC" Coons, 93, of Westminster Drive in West Ellicott, died September 9, 2020 in his residence. He was born May 3, 1927 in Corry, Pa., the son of the late Merle D. and Anna Anderson Coons. A 1944 graduate of Corry High School, he also attended Gannon University in Erie, Pa. Mr. Coons moved to West Ellicott in 1982 from Rochester, NY following his retirement from Intext Communications Systems (I.C.S.). "CC" was the Industrial District Manager of the Buffalo/Rochester District and at the time of his retirement was senior manager in the United States with 32 years of service in Hornell, NY, Erie, Pa. and Rochester, NY. CC won many sales awards during his years with I.C.S. He was a charter member of the company's Hall of Fame, a charter member of the Executive Committee, and a charter member of the Silver Society. He was also the first in the United States to win all of the sales awards of the previous 20 years. He was very active with the Monroe County Chapter of the American Society for Training and Development (A.S.T.D.) where he was membership chairman for many years. He was awarded for bringing in the most new members to the Chapter. CC was a Navy veteran, serving on active duty during World War II as a Navy Corpsman with U.S. Marines. During the Korean War, CC served as Senior Corpsman with the Second Marine Division. During the Vietnam Conflict, he served with several Intelligence Agencies as an undercover operative. He was part of a very secretive operation, Rolling Thunder, to mine Haiphong Harbor in North Vietnam. He was very proud of his 9 ½ years of service to his country. CC was a member of the Elmer C. Carrier American Legion Post 365 in Corry, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 53 in Jamestown, and life member of the Disabled American Veterans Post 47. In addition to his parents and a brother, Richard Coons, he was preceded in death by his wife, Jeanne Munson Coons whom he married September 14, 1976 in Canandaigua, NY and who died December 21, 2003. CC is survived by a daughter, Linda Ann Van Hemel of Emporia, Kansas. Inurnment has taken place in the columbarium at Sunset Hill Cemetery. To family and friends, CC will always be remembered as a true patriot for God and Country.
