Obituary of Randy B. Olmstead

Randy B. Olmstead, 65, of Jamestown, NY, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, December 10, 2020, in UPMC Chautauqua. A lifelong area resident, he was born July 21, 1955 in Randolph, NY, a son of the late Lawrence A. "Larry" Olmstead and the late Barbara J. Sheldon Caswell. Randy was a 1975 graduate of St. Mary's School for the Deaf in Buffalo, NY and attended the National Technical Institute for the Deaf, on the campus of Rochester Institute of Technology in Rochester, NY. Before his retirement, he was an electrical assembler for the Heidenhain Company, formerly Acu-Rite, where he worked for several years. In earlier years he worked for the Warren National Bank, Warren, PA. He was a member of the Alpha Lutheran Church for the Deaf in Rochester, NY and also the Jamestown-Warren Fellowship for the Deaf, where he served as Treasurer for several years. He will be remembered as one who loved to play games on his phone and was an avid card player and an excellent chess player. Surviving are his wife of 41 years, Marcella "Cella" Janczylik Olmstead, whom he married September 15, 1979, his mother; Diane Olmstead of Jamestown, two sisters; Debra A. Pastor of Cassadaga, NY, Darlene N. Macri of Neptune Beach, FL, a brother; Riley M. Olmstead (Judy Platt) of Jamestown, NY, a half brother; Robert Caswell, a half sister; Sheri Caswell both of Erie, PA, as well as several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandparents; Velma and Pitt Moores, Lena Wagner and Ralph Olmstead. Due to Covid-19 restrictions, a private memorial service will be held in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. John Rushton, of the Alpha Lutheran Church for the Deaf will officiate. Music will be provided by Rev. Adam Rohler, pastor of the First Covenant Church. Visitation will not be observed. Memorials in Randy's name may be made to the Alpha Lutheran Church for the Deaf, 1969 S. Clinton St. Rochester, NY 14624.
