Obituary of Stuart E. Northrop

Stuart E. "Stu" Northrop, 96, of The Villages, FL, formerly of Springdale Avenue, Jamestown, died Monday, December 21, 2020 in Florida. A native of Jamestown, he was born June 3, 1924, the son of the late Clarence "Rusty" and Audrey Curtis Northrop. He was a 1942 graduate of Jamestown High School. Stuart was a WWII veteran serving in the US Navy as an Aviation Machinist's Mate Second Class and as a nose gunner until the end of the war and honorable discharged in 1946. Prior to his retirement in 2001, he and his wife owned and operated Christian Book Cellar for 17 years. He had also worked at Stateside Motors for 26 years as sales manager. While living in Jamestown he was a member of Christ First United Methodist Church, Flying Aces of Falconer, Button Valley Bombers radio control airplane club, Jamestown Rifle Club and as an avid golfer, belonged to Chautauqua Golf Club. In his younger days he raced with Sports Car Club of America for 14 years. Surviving is his daughter Suellen Northrop of The Villages, FL. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Evelyn (Evie) Couchenour Northrop, whom he married September 21, 1946 and who died December 16, 2013 and a sister Louise Anderson. Services will be announced at a later date. Visitation will not be observed. Memorials may be made to Christ First United Methodist Church, 663 Lakeview Ave, Jamestown, NY 14701.
