To Family,
It is with much sadness to learn of Meb's passing in January. I could not write at that time because of contractors in our home for five weeks; the downstairs furniture moved to the kitchen; and everything else was boxed up or buried, including the computer.
I knew Meb from the years when he owned Lock Stock and Barrel. My wife and I were reacquainted with Meb at Hartley Buick where we always dealt with Meb to buy a car. We could trust Meb to get us a fair price and trade in on the cars we bought there. After Meb retired, I did not see Meb for a long time. Then I would see Meb at estate sales, where he drove his housekeeper Ellen. He would be on the lookout for Pike Minnows and Crescent wrenches. Meb has been a friend to many and he leaves behind memories of a gentle man who always had an easy smile to give to all.

I just heard of Meb’s passing. What a great guy. We had so many great times together, fishing out on Lake Ontario, then working on his boat, then fishing, and working on his damn boat again. Hanging out with Meb was always a pleasure. You are going to be missed old friend and always in my heart.

I am sadden to hear of Meb's passing. I was fortunate to meet Meb back in the early 1980's. He was a was a true friend, and was full of wisdom and advice. We both shared a passion for fishing. Meb and I once fished a salmon derby on Lake Ontario and we had a slight adventure on the Niagara River. We ended up losing the prop on Mebs' boat and we were drifting helplessly down the river. Fortunately we were on the lower Niagara at the time, and we were able to tie off on a buoy, until a harbor patrol boat was able to get to us, and tow us back to safety. Over the years, I would still run into my old friend, whether we were fly fishing for steelhead on Chautauqua Creek, or perhaps I would see him at the grocery store. We always took a few minutes to chat. I will most certainly miss you my friend. My sincere condolences to all of Meb's family.
Sincerely,
Steve McIntire

I worked with Meb at Hartley’s and took his position during one of his retirements. I became close with Meb even through our nearly 40 year age difference. The best thing about Meb was that he loved helping people, especially people he cared for. He would give me advice. Life advice that legitimately saved my life. I have a wonderful family and it’s in large part because Meb cared. His advice didn’t have any motives attached and I truly believed in his wisdom. He and I remained friends and would grab lunch at Hogan’s Hut frequently to share a laugh. I would have to sneak to the counter to pay, so he wouldn’t insist he pay. He helped me with decisions on my career as well and I like to think I made him proud. I hope I did. I lost my father last February and it was awful, however he lives on through the lessons he taught me. I feel the same way about Meb. I will miss him terribly and I will try to honor his memory as well. The world is a little less happy now without that unique laugh of his and without the venison burgers and hotdogs he would make for me. Meb was a GREAT man and he had a very positive impact on my entire family. We loved him and will miss him coming to our barn for our large summer party.

The family of Lee 'Barney' Kellogg (1932-1995) extends its most-sincere sympathy in Meb's passing. [I was a neighbor on Shadyside Road, Lakewood, many years ago: late 60's, early 70's; always fascinated how the goldfish froze in their pond on property in the wintertime; re-emerged in the spring.. They were lovely neighbors. Stay strong; I know you will.
