Obituary of Eleanor R. Curry

Eleanor Ruth (Hunter) Curry, 98, formerly of 14 Harris Ave. Jamestown, NY, went home to be with her Lord on Friday, January 29, 2021, in the Heritage Green Rehab and Skilled Nursing Facility. An area resident for most of her life, she was born August 26, 1922 in Wilson, NY, a daughter of the late William and Clara Strablo Hunter. She was an active member of the Bethel Baptist Church for over 70 years where she served as a Deaconess, worked in the Sunday school program and was a member of the arrangements committee for many years. She and Walter extended hospitality to visiting pastors and missionaries as well as providing transportation for the young people on special outings of the church. For many years they had resided at Maranatha Village, a Christian community in Sebring, FL. She will be remembered as a loving and caring wife, mother and grandmother who loved taking care of her home as a housewife and homemaker. Surviving are three daughters; Diana (Jim) Lowery of Souderton, PA, Barbara (Jim) Poppleton of Mills River, NC, Carolyn Curry of Jamestown, three grandchildren, and 11 great grandchildren, Kellie (Jon) Baity and their children, Lauren, Lindsey, Leah and Rachel of Etowah, NC, Kimberly (David) Woods and their children, Jessica, Justine, David and Rebecca of Gilbert, AZ, Kerri (David) Bailey and their children, Felicia, Makayla and Malea of Flat Rock, NC, 10 great great grandchildren and two sisters; Virginia Bathurst of Port Charlotte, FL and June Morazzano of Bedford, TX. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 71 years, Walter C. Curry whom she married March 6, 1943 and who died March 1, 2014 and a sister Margaret Clive of Niagara Falls, NY. The funeral will be held at 2 pm Thursday, February 4, 2021, in the Bethel Baptist Church. The Rev. Derrick Hicks, pastor will officiate. Burial will be in the Sunset Hill Cemetery. Friends will be received from 1-2 pm Thursday, one hour prior to the service in the church. Memorials may be made to the Bethel Baptist Church, 200 Hunt Rd. Jamestown, NY 14701.
