I had Captain Rick as a school bus driver all through my years of elementary. He was truly a respectable and kind hearted man and an amazing, entertaining driver. My condolences are forever with his family. Thank you, Captain for being a landmark in my life.

My three years as Captain of the Summerwind was perhaps my greatest working experience. Rick was a wonderful boss and a great friend. He had a wonderful sense of humor as well as a very compassionate heart. My sincere condolences to Helen and the entire family. Chautauqua Lake has lost a true legend. Sail on my friend. I never knew him as Rick or even Captain Rick. I had him as a substitute teacher at Southwestern throughout middle and high school. We were just kids, so to us he was Captain Willman. I still remember how exciting it was to walk into a classroom and see him sitting there. You knew it was going to be fun every time. He didn't feel like a teacher. He felt like your buddy. He had a great sense of humor and I remember what a kick we used to get out of passing him in the halls and addressing him as Captain and saluting. We even went on the Summer Wind for our senior night. That was in 2007. I don't think I can even name any other substitute teachers I had. That's what kind of an impact he had. To his family, I'm very sorry for your loss. He was a great guy.

Sorry to hear of Captain Rick's passing. We enjoyed our boat rides with him and my girls loved driving the boat. I remember him stopping by my parents to get information on an orange windsock like ours and us getting so excited to see the boat go up and down the lake.

Helen, So sorry to hear of Captain Rick's passing. I have so many wonderful memories with Rick during my ten years as a narrator aboard the Summer Wind! Each day, each voyage, brought a different adventure that I cherished. Through the miracle of modern technology, Patrice and I were able to watch Rick's beautiful funeral service. Helen, know that our thoughts and prayers are with you, and we pray that you are comforted by the many fun memories you shared together and with so many friends.
Much love, Chuck and Patrice Spinner...Cable, Ohio

Rick was from Corry and a vital part of the class of 1968. He was always friendly and always had something interesting going on. We snowmobiled together and pretended to be misspending our youth with a few beers. In reality he was a great companion and will be in our memories.
I’m thankful that he participated in our weekly class of 68 Zoom last summer and fall.
