Obituary of Bernice I. Chandler

Bernice I. Stratton Coleson Chandler, 71, of Jamestown, NY, passed away on Thursday January 28, 2021, at UPMC Chautauqua in Jamestown. A lifelong area resident, she was born September 8, 1949 in Jamestown, a daughter of the late Edgar L. and Inez Brooks Stratton. She was a 1969 graduate of Southwestern Central School. Bernice was raised in the Allegheny Wesleyan Methodist Church in Ashville, NY Over the years she worked for Fairbanks Farms, Bush Industries, and spent several years working as a home health care aide. Surviving is her second husband, Marvin Chandler whom she married July 15, 2011; three daughters: Bernice Ann (William Johnston) Coleson and Linda (Chris Suppo) Coleson, both of Jamestown, and Beverly (Nathan) Spears of Brocton, NY; two sons: Danny Coleson, and Carl Coleson of Jamestown; three grandsons: Travis Johnston, Nickolas Smith and Austin Spears, and a granddaughter, Sabrina Spears; a brother; Roger A. Stratton of Pell City, AL; and a stepbrother, David Larson. She was preceded in death by her father who died in 1999, her mother who died in 1987, and her stepmother, Lois E. Stratton who died in 2008; her brother, Chester Stratton who died in 2019; her first husband, Gust Coleson whom she married July 1978 and died in 1995; and a stepbrother Mark Larson in 1995, and stepsister, Nancy Larson in 2007. A private graveside service will be held. Visitation will not be observed. Burial will be in the Maple Grove Cemetery, Ashville.
