Obituary of Dianne W. Nelson
Dianne W. Nelson, 82, of Jamestown, died Monday April 12, 2021, in UPMC Hamot.
A lifelong Jamestown resident, she was born May 27, 1938, the daughter of the late Robert and Oleita Seeley White.
Dianne was a 1956 graduate of Jamestown High School and later graduated from WCA Hospital School of Nursing.
Her career as a nurse began at WCA Hospital and included work in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, before she returned to Jamestown to be closer to family and start one of her own in the late 1960s. She returned to the workforce in the early 1980s as a home health care coordinator for Upjohn Healthcare (later CareGivers) and was shortly thereafter promoted to be the manager of the Jamestown office, where she worked until retirement and was recognized for excellence in managing the top regional CareGivers office several times.
She was active in the Jamestown community throughout her life. She was a member of Norden Women's Club, Westside Women's Club, and a lifetime member and past president of Lakewood Rod and Gun Club Women's Auxiliary. She was a lead fundraiser for Jamestown General Hospital and regularly volunteered to work at local festivals, and she welcomed new families to Jamestown through her involvement in Welcome Wagon. Always supportive of her children, she was a member and past president of the Persell Elementary School PTA and a past president of Jamestown High School Music Boosters. She was also a long-time member of Bethel Lutheran Church.
She will be remembered for her kindness, compassion and deep love for her family. She was a devoted wife of 52 years who provided loving care and companionship for her husband Dan as he faced a debilitating illness later in life, and she was an incredible mother and grandmother. She especially enjoyed spending time with her four grandchildren—regularly attending their school and sports events, patiently playing innumerable games, and never missing a holiday or other special occasion to show them Grandma's love along with a package of home-baked cookies and other goodies.
Surviving are two children Daniel (Megan) Nelson of McLean, VA and Debra (James) Sharpe of Jamestown; four grandchildren Alexander Sharpe, Jack Nelson, Evan Sharpe and Rachel Nelson.
She was preceded in death by her husband Daniel W. Nelson, whom she married July 8, 1964 and who died August 4, 2016, and two brothers Robert White, Jr. and Ronald White.
