Obituary of Ruth D. Hedstrand

Ruth D. Hedstrand, 89, formerly of Lakewood, NY, passed away peacefully April 17, 2021at Heritage Park Rehab & Skilled Nursing in Jamestown. She was born May 16, 1931 in Boardman, Ohio, a daughter of the late Olga and Thure Nelson, and graduated from Jamestown High School in 1950. She married Derle E. Hedstrand on November 17, 1951. Ruth was employed as an operator at the former Jamestown Telephone Co. for many years and as a desk clerk at The Red Coach Inn. In her senior years, she ran the Meals On Wheels lunch site at Chautauqua Colony in Lakewood, a job she truly enjoyed. Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Derle, who died September 14, 1978. She is survived by five children: Sue Intihar (Larry) of Indian Trail, NC, John Hedstrand of Falconer, NY, Cindy Rankin (Gary) of Brookville, FL, Mark Hedstrand (Melissa) of Frewsburg, NY and Bob Hedstrand (Betty) of Busti, NY; daughter-in-law, Kathy Hedstrand of Jamestown; seven grandchildren: Dr. Eric Intihar (Kendra) of Mooresville, NC, Lisa Brandon of Buffalo, NY, Kailyn Aloisio (Gary) of Buffalo, Mark Hedstrand (Danielle) of Clarendon, PA, David Hedstrand of Jamestown, Lindsey Mraz (Joey) of Springhill, FL, and Jessica Miller (Daniel) of Kennedy, NY; twelve great-grandchildren; her sister, May Morrison of Jamestown; and a niece, Nancy Thunberg and nephew, David Thunberg. A special thank you to the staff of both Heritage Park and Orchard Grove who cared for our Mom during her times there. Visitation will be held from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday, June 5, 2021 in the Lind Funeral Home. A private family service will be held, led by the Rev. Gerald A Haglund.
