He was my 7th grade social studies teacher at jefferson jr. High. He was a good guy full of personality. He woul give us extra credit if we brought in political cartoons from the post journal. Given that I needed all the extra credit I could get, I brought in 3 from the weekend paper. When he discovered that I had slipped in a marmaduke cartoon, we all in the class had a good laugh. Didn't get credit for that one nor did I get a detentionl

Sincerest Condolences. Jack (Mr. Engdahl) came to Panama school just a couple of months before graduation.
He was very kind and I felt like my under-classmates would be in good hands once we were gone ;)
This picture was taken graduation night, June 24, 1983.
GODS SPEED, Mellissa Smith

Jack was such a lovely person. I knew him because my ex husband was a baseball umpire when Jack was deeply involved. I taught at Southwestern and was there when he served as an interim principal at the high school. From all the good reports from teacher friends at Panama,I knew we were in good hands. I am so glad Jack that had such a long life with his family and friends. Prayers to all of you.

Laura and Family,
My deepest sympathy. I met Jack through Laura a few times at teacher social events and he was a wonderful person. A genuine listener, and story teller. I had the privilege of meeting Jack through his wife Laura, when she and I both taught at Washington School. Jack has spent his life in education and sports and I am sure he left a lasting memory with many that knew him. While this is a sorrowful time, I hope that my thoughts and prayers are of some comfort.

I want to express my sincere condolences to Jack's family. Jack's parents, Bob and Ginny, were neighbors to my husband's and my farm and became very close friends to us both. My late hubby Paul King considered them like parents. I also knew Jack from Mayville Central School. My children always had something nice to say about Mr. Engdahl. Jack helped me out personally on a couple of occasions with school-related issues. He was also a friend of my hubby John and whenever we ran into him it was always nice to "catch up" with him. He was truly a great guy!! I am holding you all in my heart and prayers for God's comfort and peace in the weeks ahead.

Glad I got to visit this fella to express appreciation before covid shut things down. Changed my life forever hiring me at Panama Central School back in spring of 1989. I recall the very spot and "interview" in his office 33 years ago.
So many funny stories. Called a parent once in front of me for permission to paddle the student. Then did it! In my first few years of teaching he whisked my wife,Trish, onto the dance floor while vacationing on our honeymoon in Myrtle Beach as people circled them clapping. Mark Powers and I often tailgated with Jack and Laura at Bills games at their camper in the Super Bowl years and beyond. Great bloody Marys and always a Bills win to discuss Monday. Kids loved him as he'd routinely get bombarded with hugs walking down the hall. All this and you still knew he was the man in charge on Monday morning. Always had your back and never bothered you if doing your job well.
Loved and known all over the county and beyond as (among other things) a teacher, principal, coach, Panther football PA man and softball umpire.
One of a kind in a much different era of education.

I’m so sorry for your loss of your dear husband, father and grandfather. You are all in my prayers that God will provide a special peace and offer you lasting comfort in these days ahead. Jack was a wonderful person always putting the needs of others to the forefront. He cared and loved the many students and teachers he had contact with. His sincerity was to me one of his best attributes. May he Rest In Peace and enter heaven as Jesus welcomes him saying well done my servant.

Jack was an incredible principal for all students at Panama Central School. He truly was a man who cared about the well being of his students, and staff. His amazing smile truly resonated throughout the building with warmth and provided for a positive atmosphere. Jack was not only a supportive principal, but he was a good friend who gave me support and advice years after my graduating from Panama Central School. That I will never forget ! My condolences to his wonderful family. He will surely be missed by many.
