Obituary of Jean A. DePane
Jean DePane, 94, of Jamestown, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 23, 2021, at UPMC Hamot in Erie, PA. She was a dearly loved wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother and a friend to many.
She was born Giovanna DePrima on February 2, 1927 in Jamestown, NY, the daughter of the late Salvatore (Samuel) Anthony and Michela Margaret Farinella DePrima. She was a 1943 graduate of Jamestown High School, at the age of 16. A talented seamstress, she worked for many years at Fashion Clothes in Jamestown and, later, at J.C. Kelso and Jamestown Sewing.
Jean was a life-long member of St. James Roman Catholic Church in Jamestown, serving in many of the church organizations for women, children, and family. She was a Cub Scout den leader for many years. Jean grew up in Jamestown's "Lost Neighborhood" and participated in that organization's activities. She always enjoyed being with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She was an avid reader and mystery novels were her particular favorite. She was also skilled in needlework and knitted and crocheted many items for her family as well as several charitable organizations. Jean enjoyed celebrating the holidays with her family and encouraged her children and grandchildren to bring their friends to these family celebrations.
Surviving are her husband of nearly 66 years, Joseph Basil DePane, whom she married on May 21, 1955 at St. James Roman Catholic Church; five children: JoAnn (Karl) Donn of Durham, NC, Laurie Peterson of Jamestown, Susan Wymer (Don Everett) of Falconer, and Michael (Kim) DePane and John DePane, both of Jamestown; twelve grandchildren: Christopher (Sharon) Donn, Michael (Samantha) Donn, Janice (Gene) Ploss, John Peterson (Kara Mawhir), Jesse (Amanda) Wymer, Joseph (Amanda) DePane, David DePane, Diana DePane, Charlene DePane, Ashley DePane (Dylan Monroe), Kayla (Marc) Bohall, and Emily DePane; and eleven great grandchildren: Davis, Octavia, Lincoln, Angela, John, Nicholas, Will, Kenny, Kaysen, Vincent, and Joshua.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Joseph DePane, Jr., in 1989; her son-in-law, John Peterson, in 2018; and her sisters, Manuela Foti in 2002 and Claudia Russell in 1985.
A walk-through visitation will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday in the Lind Funeral Home, where social distancing is observed and masks are required at all times. A private family service will be held and burial will be in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials are made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or www.stjude.org.
