Obituary of Marvin R. Bader
Marvin R. Bader, 87, of Jamestown, NY, passed away at 5:12 pm Saturday, May 1, 2021, in UPMC Chautauqua, surrounded by loving family members.
Marvin was born October 8, 1933 in Falconer, NY, the only child of the late Roy W. and Ella Anderson Bader.
He was a veteran of the U.S Army serving from June 24,1953 to May 31,1955, during and after the Korean War, receiving the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal.
He was a 1951 graduate of Falconer Central School and earned his associates degree from Jamestown Community College in 1957, where he met his future wife Caroline T. Hornsten. After they married, they moved to the Washington DC area, where Marv earned his bachelor's degree in History from George Washington University in 1961. He and Caroline made the Washington DC area their home for 43 years where they raised their family.
He was employed by the IBM Company as a computer program analyst for more than 25 years. He worked primarily in the DC area but also contributed to projects that took him and his family to California and Hawaii.
Marvin will be remembered as a loving and caring husband, father and grandfather who loved being outdoors tending to his flower garden. His flower garden was featured in the Jamestown Garden Tour a few years ago. He also loved sailing and had sailed up and down the east coast and to Europe and Granada, commanding his 35ft. sailboat.
Marv maintained a life-long love of words and word play and was an amusing conversationalist. He enjoyed history, reading books and completing the New York Times crossword Puzzle. He was a sports enthusiast, particularly baseball, and was a lifelong fan of the Atlanta Braves, beginning when they were in Milwaukee.
His recent interests included genealogy which led Marv to arrange a trip to Sweden, where he and Caroline visited close relatives and made new acquaintances with relatives that he discovered through his research.
Marv is survived by his wife of 63 years, Caroline, whom he married September 14, 1957, three children: Lori (Brian) Adornato of Seminole, FL, Tamara (John) Tabor of Darnestown, MD, Daniel (Lina) Bader of Gerrardstown W. VA, and three grandchildren: Sean Adornato of Portland, OR, Ian Tabor and Erica Tabor both of Darnestown, MD.
He was preceded in death by his father Roy who died in 1976 and his mother Ella who died in 1982.
The funeral will be held at 10:30 am Saturday, May 15, in the Lind Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Pine Hill Cemetery, Falconer, NY.
Friends will be received on a walk-through basis from 6-8 pm Friday, May 14, where social distancing will be observed and masks must be worn.
Memorials may be made to the Salvation Army, 83 South Main St. Jamestown, NY 14701.
