Obituary of Betty J. Kettle

Betty J. Kettle, 92, of the LECOM Senior Living Center, Erie, PA, formerly of Linwood Ave. Jamestown, NY, passed away at 2:22 am Monday, May 10, 2021 in Erie, PA. A Jamestown resident for most of her life, she was born July 5, 1928 in Jamestown, NY, a daughter of the late Harry and Edna Rosean Winterburn. She was a graduate of Jamestown High School and was a member of the Kidder Memorial United Methodist Church. In previous years, Betty had worked as a sales associate for the former Carnahan's Clothing Company and as a bookkeeper for the Rowan Concrete Company. She is survived by a son, Michael (Lori) Anderson of Erie, PA, a daughter, Lisa (Dave) Bobo of Rochester, NY, five grandchildren, Ryanne Anderson (Isaac) Gerg, Ashley Anderson Sikuka, Jake (Susann) Anderson, Bryan (Meghan) Bobo, Benjamin (Abby) Bobo, Danelle Turney, Brent Nelson, seven great grandchildren, Nakeela Jo Sikuka, Nolan Anderson, Noah Anderson, Andrew Magee, Alexis Nelson, Hannah Nelson, Kasey Nelson, and a brother, Robert (Carol) Winterburn. She was also very close to her loving nephew and nieces. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Oliver H. "Pinky" Anderson, her second husband, Richard C. Kettle, a daughter, Donna Turney, a grandson, Todd Nelson, a sister, Carol Melquist, a nephew, Don Melquist and a niece, Amy Winterburn. Betty will be remembered as a loving, caring, and extremely proud mother and grandmother. She never missed an opportunity to talk about her grandchildren. She was a die-hard supporter of her grandchildren's events, and fiercely competitive as a she cheered them on. She was known by many loving names including, Grandma Betty, G, GiGi, Gert, G Unit, Grandma Half Toe, Monique, MA, and Betty Boop. Conversations with Mom and Grandma always involved coffee. She taught us the importance of coffee from a very young age… maybe too young. Mom was a hard worker with a deep desire to learn, whether she was googling on her blackberry, operating her Wii game, or doing home repairs. She always had the tenacity to find a solution. She was always up for a fun adventure and waiting for the next opportunity. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, May 29, 2021, in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. Tom LeBeau, pastor of the Kidder Memorial United Methodist Church will officiate. Visitation will not be observed. Inurnment will be in the Sunset Hill Cemetery.
