Tom Karapantso posted a condolence

Family of Tom Harte,
It is with sadness that I write my condolences for the passing of Tom. I have known Tom since the day I began teaching in Jamestown in 1972 and through the teacher's strike which began two weeks after school opened. His passion to defend the rights that the school board was trying to eliminate from the teacher's contract was a very inspiring moment that led to my long time admiration of the man. I might even have benefited from his work as I caddied one summer at Moonbrook C. C. during the 1960's.
I always knew Tom as a man who was intelligent & passionate about his causes, his commitment to the betterment of the lives of people, and he really gave 100% to get things done as a educator and a County Legislator. I am sure that he impacted the lives of many individuals and groups. May God bless the family during this difficult time.
May Tom's memory be eternal.

I was a student at JHS when Mr. Harte was a teacher there. I wasn't lucky to have him as a teacher, but I did receive the honor and privilege to become acquainted with him when I was hired as a teacher in the Jamestown School District. I became involved with JTA and learned so much from Tom's leadership and example as a teacher and a leader of teachers. He was a gentleman to all he spoke to, and dealt with in his service. He had a wonderful smile and made everyone he spoke with, for whatever reason, feel good as they parted ways following the conversation, or encounter. My teaching career and service to JTA was highly influenced by Tom and those others leading us back in the late 70s. I enjoyed talking to him after we both were retired at the Chaut. Co. Retired Teachers meetings/luncheons. He was then serving the retired teachers of the area and still with that great smile and personality. I am greatly indebted to Tom, and appreciate all he did in service to students, teachers, and community for so many years. May he rest in peace and now enjoy the ultimate reward, which he has so deservedly earned, in Heaven, reunited with his lovely wife, Dot.

Dear Harte family. I'm sorry to hear about the loss of your father. Like others posted, Mr. Harte was my social studies teacher at JHS. He was what teaching is all about---learning and have fun doing so! As I moved away from Jamestown after college, I would occasionally bump into him on a stream chasing steelhead. His passion for fishing was evident, but more importantly, he always remembered me as we exchanged pleasantries. With warmest regards, Mark

The family of Lee 'Barney' Kellogg (1932-1995) and Joyce Kellogg, offers our most sincere sympathy in the passing of your loved one. Dorothy was a dear friend, former Avon customer of mine; and I knew Tom during that time also. I worked for NYSUT and Tom was in our office many times during local union difficulties of the '70's; later at our local Lakewood Legion, Post 1286. Stay strong; I know you will.

My husband and I met Tom in HHI, the first year we wintered there. He became a great friend. It was always interesting to get into discussions with him. Very intelligent man. And then there was the golf. My husband was always ready for a game.
Then there was the Newfoundland connection. And the Irish connection. He will be missed. Love you Tom. Anne Brown, Ontario Canada.
