Obituary of Leonard A. Turnquist

Leonard A. Turnquist, 60, of Tonawanda, NY, passed away on Thursday, June 24, 2021, in Buffalo General Hospital, Buffalo, NY. He was born September 16, 1960, in Jamestown, NY, a son of the late Richard A. and Margaretha E. Johansson Turnquist. Leonard was a 1978 graduate of Jamestown High School and a 1983 graduate of the Art Institute of Pittsburgh. He was currently employed by Tops Market, Inc. as a graphic designer. Leonard, being the artist he was, loved living in Buffalo where he enjoyed the arts, music, and the cultural scene. He loved attending events at Artpark and visiting the museums. He also enjoyed kayaking, biking and was a big fan of the Cleveland Browns. Surviving is his life partner of eleven years, Kathy Dennis of Tonawanda, NY, and her children, Michael Dennis of Tonawanda, NY, and Paige Dennis of Denver, CO, two sisters, Ava A. (Jerry Root) Turnquist of Panama, NY, Annette S. (Richard) Carlson of Ashville, NY, a brother, Paul W. "Billy" (Lisa) Turnquist of Rochester, NY, his nieces and nephews, Chet (Jade) Root of Jamestown, Lisa Smrekar of Lakewood, Sara (Jake) Mikula of Buffalo, Erik and Nicholas Turnquist of Rochester and his great nieces and nephews, Charlie, Jack and Sammy Root, Ethan and Lola Smrekar. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by a nephew, Alex Turnquist. The funeral will be held at 11:00 am Thursday, July 1, 2021, in the Lind Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Sunset Hill Cemetery. Friends will be received from 6-8 pm Wednesday, June 30, 2021, in the funeral home.
