Obituary of Josephine F. Caruso

Josephine "Josie" Fay Caruso, 92, of Jamestown, NY, passed away at 11:05 am Saturday, July 3, 2021, at UPMC Chautauqua, with her family by her side. Josie was born May 15, 1929, in Rossiter, PA, a daughter of the late Anthony and Mary Mattay Antonuccio. On May 20, 1950, she married Salvatore "Sam" Caruso, who preceded her in death on June 28, 2017. They were wed for almost 70 years. In earlier years, Josie and Sam enjoyed playing poker with their many friends, going to the horse races, and to the casino. They were also die-hard New York Yankee fans. Josie was employed as an inspector for the former Ethan Allen Furniture Manufacturing Company in Frewsburg, NY, for many years, retiring at the age of 62. She will be remembered as a feisty woman who was not afraid to speak her mind. Most importantly, she was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend. Her passion for cooking will be missed. Surviving is her son, Samuel (Carol Storms) Caruso of Florida, a daughter, MaryAnn (Mark) Alpaugh of Jamestown, her grandson, Mitchell Alpaugh of Longmont, CO, her brother, Victor (Carol) Antonuccio of Jamestown, her Goddaughter, Ann Atwell, her best friend, RoseMarie Pilato, cousins, Diane Basile and Rose Cardinale and many loving nieces and nephews too numerous to mention. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Patsy, Samuel, Anthony, and Nicholas Antonuccio. Per Josie's wishes, there will be no formal service and visitation will not be observed. Josie's son and daughter would like to thank all the healthcare workers, doctors, John in PT, and staff at UPMC Chautauqua, especially the 4th floor (D unit), who treated her like family during her final days.
