Obituary of Kay Sfetko
Kay Walker Vervoort Sfetko, 92, formerly of Jamestown, N.Y., passed away July 16, 2021 at Greenwood Health & Living Nursing Home, Greenwood, IN.
She was born May 18, 1929 to the late Elora and John M. Walker and lived her entire life in the Jamestown area. Kay graduated from Jamestown High School in 1947 and in her youth was a champion speed skater who competed in the quarter finals for the Winter Olympics. She would tell you that she would have won had it not been for a gum wrapper on the ice!
Kay was a homemaker, avid gardener, fisherman, decorator, and world traveler. She was also a talented artist who sketched, painted, sculpted, wrote poetry and a few unpublished novels. She will be missed as the Antique Auto Club's Official Scribe and Poetess Laureate.
Kay was preceded in death by both parents; a sister, Fern Nelson; a brother, Roderick Walker; both husbands: Lambert Vervoort, whom she married in 1950 and died the same year; and George R. Sfetko whom she married on October 16, 1959 and was married until his passing on May 20, 1998.
She is survived by a sister, Jackie Watkins, and a brother, Clark Walker and two daughters: Jill S. Beitz Pingleton of Greenwood, IN, and Kara S. Lawrence of Dallas, TX; and a grandson, Noah J. Beitz of Palm Harbor, FL.
No visitation or services. Private burial will be in Fluvanna Cemetery.
