Obituary of Morris L. Dickey

Morris L. "Pat" Dickey of 31 Chestnut St. in Jamestown passed away peacefully in the comfort of her husband of 60 years, Bobby N. Dickey and additional family members, into the loving arms of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on August 2, 2021. Morris was born on April 12, 1940 in Electric Mills, Mississippi, a daughter of the late Morris A. Bailey and late Bessie L. Robinson-Bailey. She was a graduate of Academy High School located in Erie, PA, graduating with Honors in the class of 1958. Morris was actively involved in various organizations within the community. Her engagement began in the late 1960s at the Young Women's Christian Association (YWCA) where she was selected to serve on the board. This position allowed her to do what she loved most, assisting teenagers and building new relationships. In addition, Morris was a member of the Marvin House where she met many wonderful women throughout the years while serving on the board of directors as their Trustee. Morris was also a member of The Links, Inc., a social justice sisterhood group that addresses community needs. She served as the leadership officer within this organization for years. Alongside Sue Blake and the Late Carol Faison, Morris served as a community youth leader as they focused on career development, academic, social and cooking skills for young adults. Lastly, Morris served as a community outreach member for the Job Corps, with the aim of increasing student enrollment. Morris played a significant role on the Juneteenth committee for numerous years as she was one of the founding leaders. The one place she held many roles was the North Main Street Church of God, where she was a member for 40 plus years. Morris was designated as Treasurer, Trustee, and a Sunday school teacher; this is where she was given the name Miss Pat. Prior to retirement, Morris worked at Prudential Life Insurance for 21 years. For 15 of those years Morris was the clerical office manager. The staff at Prudential became her second family as she made many long-lasting friendships with individuals including but not limited to, Lou Carlo, Dave Cromey, and the late Dorothy Whipple. Morris is survived by her husband, Bobby N. Dickey whom she married on August 18, 1961, and their two sons, Dana A. Dickey and Robbie J. Dickey, all residing in Jamestown, NY. Also surviving are grandchildren: Sonya (Roger) Bingham, Keiona Nance, Richard Nance, Jr., Blake Nance, Sidney Nance, Shawn Bingham, Amber Shelton of Jamestown, Nicole DeVlieger, Isayah Baker-Johnson, Darron Johnson of Jamestown, James (Deidre) Dickey, J'Leah, Miyah, Aiyannah, and Zarreah Dickey of Monroe, NC, and Patresha (William) Borkowski, Alex and Aiden Borkowski of Jamestown; two sisters: Ruby (the late Kenny) Dickerson of Elyria, OH and Betty (Mel) Witherspoon of Erie, PA; two brothers-in-law: George E. (the late Marlene) Dickey of CO and Clyde W. (Tamara) Dickey of Jamestown, and a sister-in-law, Shirley J. (the late James) Dickey of AZ; as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Morris was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Thomas and Willie Mae Robinson; two sisters, Barbara Ann Bailey and Virginia Beth Bailey; her mother-in-law, Earlene Dickey and father-in-law, George Dickey; sister-in-law, Marlene Dickey and brothers-in-law, James Dickey and Kenny Dickerson; and nephews, Dalyn and Reginald Dickey. Morris was always known for having a heart of gold. She was kind to anyone who walked through her door. She would welcome them into her home with open arms and her first question would be, "are you hungry?" Pat Dickey will forever be known as the most caring, selfless, and loving woman to any and all of the individuals that were fortunate enough to cross her path. "We the family care enough to send you the very best!" The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, August 9, 2021 in the Lind Funeral Home. Officiating the service will be the Reverend Marion Battle and the Reverend Chloe Smith. Friends and Family will be received from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., for two hours prior to the service in the funeral home Monday.
