Obituary of JoAnn Penn

A force of nature has transitioned. JoAnn Penn, 81, of Ashville, NY, passed away on Monday, August 9, 2021, in her home following a brief illness. A lifelong area resident, she was born September 12, 1939, in Jamestown, NY, a daughter of the late Arthur and Josephine Johnson Christensen. She was a 1957 graduate of Jamestown high School and attended Jamestown Business College. Before her retirement in 1991, she was employed by the New York State Alcohol Bureau of Investigation for 30 years. She had previously worked for the New York State unemployment office. JoAnn will be remembered for her love of horses and won several awards with Dorothy Halkinson for horse riding. Surviving are her two sons, Jeffrey Scott (Amy) Danielson of Norfolk, VA, Gregory Bryan (Jodell Gane) Danielson of Jamestown, NY, and two grandchildren, Max Danielson of Eugene, OR, Olivia Danielson of Norfolk, VA. JoAnn's family would like to acknowledge the loving help and unwavering support from her neighbor's Jackie Francis and Jeff White of Stoneledge Rd, Ashville. They both would agree that JoAnn did things "Her Way" right to the very end. She will also be missed by her swim mates at the Jamestown Boys and Girls Club and her lifelong friend and companion Florence Johnson of Busti, NY. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Paul Penn and her former husband, Eugene T. Danielson who died in 2017. A private service will be held at the convenience of the family.
