Dear Mende Family, God bless you all and give you strength at this time. I share in your grief and sadness for we lost a wonderful compassionate, charismatic friend. He will be missed by many. Father Dennis and my father had a friendship that can never be forgotten. My father (Deacon Moses Cruz) and Fr. Dennis celebrated Spanish mass at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton parish in Dunkirk, N.Y.. and they worked very hard for the Hispanic community. Eternal rest grant onto him Oh Lord.

We are so grateful for having known Fr. Mende as a dedicated pastor to Saints Peter & Paul Church and a devout and holy example to us all. He was a champion for our Holy Cross cemetery where he was steadfast about capital improvements, and the beautification of the grounds. Father was passionate about the planning and construction of the Veterans Memorial and ensuring that the sacrifices made by our servicemen and women will always be remembered. He will be sadly missed.

I only met Father Dennis once (2007), but I never forgot his kindness and compassion.
Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. May his soul and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.

My sincere sympathy in the loss of your uncle/my pastor at "Holy Apostles - St. John Church".
I am grateful to have known Fr. Mende all these years; he was a very kind person/articulate and
intelligent. My husband Frank, now deceased, thought the same. He was unable to go to church;
looked forward to reading Fr. Mende's column and each Sunday's bulletin. He will be missed by
all. Thoughts and prayers.

I extend my deep condolences to the family. Father Mende was an extraordinary priest. He successfully led our church community in excess of 22 wonderful years and we have all truly benefitted by his magnificent leadership and remarkable spiritual teachings and guidance. I am privileged to have been a fortunate participant of one of his R.C.I.A. groups as well as having the honor of serving Communion with him for years and I will treasure many revered memories of him. His absence will indeed be an immeasurable void for me and his entire faith family; however, our hearts will be calmed knowing he was a good and faithful servant who will now be at peace in our Lord’s beautiful, eternally loving arms.
With Everlasting Respect and Prayer,
Suzanne Pacheco

Condolences to his family. Sad to hear about his passing. I worked with "Dennis" prior to his priesthood. He was a good friend and worker. Living in Buffalo did not get an opportunity to see him in his priestly duty. . May he rest in eternal peace.

I didn’t know Fr. Dennis very well, but admired him from a distance. Whenever I was in Jamestown, I joined my mom for Mass. We would often remark about how he celebrated with such joy and reverence, allowing Christ’s light to shine through him. Both of my parents’ funerals, as well as my daughter’s baptism, were celebrated with such hope and care by Fr. Dennis. May God now grant him the rewards of eternal life.
With gratitude,

It was an honor and a privilege to serve at Mass with Fr. Dennis whether I was reading or giving communion. I enjoyed chatting with him before/after Mass. He was everything one could want in a parish priest: humble, faithful, and a great sense of humor. I am certain there is great rejoicing in Heaven. Prayers for his family.

So saddened to hear of Fr. Mende's passing. Not a member of his parish, but I'll always remember his kindness and compassion in the confessional. He passed to his heavenly home with our Lord, Jesus, accompanied by the angels and the saints, especially Mother Mary on the feast day of her birth Sept. 8th. He will be terribly missed by many. God's blessings of peace and comfort to his family.

~Father Mende was an excellent Priest. He spoke at my Grandma Fusco’s funeral and also my Father’s. He also brought all his body work to my Dad on several occasions. When going through the loss of my Dad, he was there to console me and add words of wisdom. You will be missed by many Father. R.I.P.

Father Dennis was a wonderful and caring priest and friend. While obviously not feeling well as we talked in the rectory just last Thursday, he was his usual jovial self. He lived his role as a priest to the highest level and was loved by all. We will miss him greatly.
