Obituary of Ruth Ann Young

Ruth Ann Young, 93, formerly of Lovall Avenue, died Saturday October 9, 2021, at Heritage Village Rehab and Skilled Nursing in Gerry, NY. She was born November 22, 1927, in Warren, PA, a daughter of the late William and Bertha Ruckman Granquist. Following graduation from Warren High School in 1945 she went on to graduate from WCA Hospital School of Nursing in 1949. As a registered nurse she was employed by WCA Hospital as a nurse in the maternity ward, becoming a charge nurse until she devoted herself to raising her family. She was an active member of Bethel Lutheran Church in Jamestown, where for many years she actively participated in Ladies Aide and the Missionary Group, taught Sunday School, and in later years was actively involved in the "B-Tweens" Fellowship. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Surviving are her two sons: Thomas (Deborah) Young of Ponte Vedra, FL and William (Nancy) Young of Clay, NY; three grandchildren: Joshua (Jessica Hanke) Young and Kristen Young, and Amanda (Carson) Thompson; and a great granddaughter Eliza Mae Young. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Burdette "Bud" Young, whom she married June 21, 1952, her brother Harold Granquist and recently her sister, Lois Nordin. A private graveside service will be held in Lake View Cemetery at the convenience of the family. Visitation will not be observed.
