He was a great teacher. He brought a fresh approach to the classroom and stood out from the rest. He's one of the few that actually had a noticable impact on my life. He used to play music for us while we were working and in fact, the reason I found this today was because one of the songs he introduced us to over thirty years ago was going through my head today and made me wonder about him. I was very saddened to find he was gone. June is Bustin' out all over.

My dear Matthew was a wonderful, loving part of my life for a very short time. My heart is heavy and I send my sympathy to his family, especially his brother Jeff whom I met and cousin Susanna Stowell whom I knew through Lakewood Area Junior Miss.

I just learned of Matt’s passing today. Matt and I were college roommates starting freshman year. Our friendship flourished and he was my Best Man at the wedding of my wife Rhonda and I. Matt became as close to Rhonda as he was to me. Our friendship grew over the years and we spent many times in NYC enjoying the best Broadway shows and best restaurants. Matt will forever hold a special close place in my heart. Rest In Peace my friend. You deserve it. All our love. John and Rhonda O’Leary

I am so sorry to read about Matt's passing. I first met him and his family when Matt was about 10 and I was working at the Hare 'n Hounds with 2 other college friends living in Bemus Point that summer. As life would have it, we moved to the area and both my children had him as their 6th grade teacher. They loved him. He was a wonderful, fun, dedicated and conscientious teacher. He did in fact walk on desks as I questioned my kids about the foot prints on some of their papers. He was one of those teachers you would never forget. He was a fine young man that gave back to the place he grew up. He will be missed by all !!!

I loved Mr. Isaacson he was my sixth grade teacher. He used to run on the desks and sing and laugh. My girls and I used to come to Bemus in the summer and pick his flowers. He was the very best. I was student of the month once and he took me to Pizza Hut.

Mr Issacson was my 6th grade teacher. I couldn’t imagine a better 6th grade year. He LOVED books! Our class won an award that year for the most books read. We got our picture in the paper! He had us learn and recite poetry (word perfect or we had to do it again). I still remember most of them to this day! He had us write our own books. I loved drawing elaborate covers for them and then reading all his comments throughout the book once he had grade it. He also made us do Wordly Wise. Best thing I’ve ever had to do! It helped me on exams all the way through college because of all the words I learned in 6th grade. I also remember his obsession with mouse and dipping his feet in the Niagra Falls river. Soo many good memories. He was a great man and an amazing, one of a kind teacher!

I still have “The Jabberwocky” by Lewis Carroll memorized. He was such a fun teacher! “Close, but no cigar” he would always say. He will be missed.
