To Anne and his two daughters and grand kids, Words will not describe the loss my friend will have to you. He will be sadly missed by many. He was my best friend and meant the world to me. The story below is how we got to be such good friends. Gary and I got into a tussle in 9th grade, me 145 pounds and Gary at least 100 pounds more. He pinned me on the ground and I told him to get off or I would beat the you know what out of him. The gentle giant he was he let me up and we became best friends. This changed my life and put me down the correct path and I owe this all to my friend. Not a day will go by that I will not miss him. I will talk to him every day and ask for his guidance for the rest of my life. My wish is for every person in the word to have a friend like I have, that can lead you down the correct path in life. Rest In Peace my friend, you are in the hands of your lord and savior. Bill Emley

I was a student of Dr. Olson's at Panama, and I will always remember him as being so fun and knowledgeable. You could tell he cared about our education, but I always had the feeling he cared about us as people as well. He was always trying to make us laugh, while we were learning too. He had the funniest phrases too, like telling people "Stop flapping at the gums" when he wanted us to quiet down. Or in Health class telling us putting a drunk person in a cold shower to sober them up doesn't work--it only creates a cold, wet, drunk person. I'm very happy that I was able to know Dr. Olson, and I hope it helps his family knowing how many lives he had a positive impact on.

Gary and Anne were such wonderful friends to my dad for so many years — I can’t thank them enough for that. But their friendship also allowed me to get to know Gary and Anne too. I thoroughly enjoyed our conversations, both the deep ones and the punny ones. Always one to encourage, Gary even texted out of the blue when running into someone who knew me. I am so sad for the heartbreak your loved ones are feeling, but so glad you were such a huge part of their hearts and ours for us to know what we have lost. Rest In Peace Gary. Hugs to Anne, the girls, and the grandkids.

Anne, Erica and Nicole - For over 48 years Gary was my Coach, teacher, mentor, counselor and FRIEND!
He supported and challenged me beginning as a Sophomore in high school to be my best self, and anytime we were together or talked thereafter he would continue do the same. With the deepest of concern and compassion he talked to me about my kidney cancer journey. Never unwilling to be anything but crystal clear in his communications.
Anne, you and Gary spent time with me, Sue and our family, and everyone loved you both and have such fond memories over the years from visits in OH, NY, NC, Marist football and on the Hudson River Bridge.
I remember your first apartment, first duplex and babysitting the twins. So many great memories with both of you.
I loved our conversations about the various books we both read. He was so smart, yet so humble....
Gary favorably impacted so many lives as a teacher and coach, and yet the lives he touched the most was each of yours. He was role model for us and a man of faith who wasn't afraid to show his caring side. I so enjoyed him telling about his grandbabies,he always had such joy in his voice as talked about them.
I can't imagine how much you all will miss him, I know I will miss him and ALWAYS have "The Panther Prayer" in my heart.
Blessings and Love from the Blanchard's,
Doug, Sue and Family

Gary was a dear friend of more than 40 years. He was a man of integrity and great kindness who will be sorely missed. Tom and Gary first met when they sat next to each other at SUNY Buffalo’s 1978 graduation. Later, as a faculty member, Tom mentored Gary through most of his doctoral dissertation.
Annual golf outings, ski races, basketball games, dinners out together, and pre -race meals- including the infamous deer meatballs- are all fondly remembered.
Gary’s personality and the gift of his friendship will remain always in our hearts. He was a truly good man whose kindness and humility influenced many lives.
We pray for Ann’s consolation and peace. May her memories of Gary’s love bring her solace.

My condolences to Gary’s family for their loss. I remember Gary as an upbeat, positive teacher and coach during my junior and senior years at Panama High School in the mid-70’s. As I read his obituary it became clear that there was so much more to Gary than I ever knew. As my good friend Doug Blanchard said, “we lost a good one in Gary.”
