Obituary of Thomas A. Buttafarro
Thomas A. Buttafarro, 80, of 1722 Manchester Road, formerly of 202 Huxley Street, passed away Sunday November 28, 2021, surrounded by his loving family in UPMC Chautauqua.
A lifelong Jamestown resident, he was born July 30, 1941, a son of the late Frank and Concetta Vaccaro Buttafarro.
He was a 1959 graduate of Jamestown High School.
In the late 1960s to early 1970s he owned and operated Thomas Beauty Salon in Jamestown. Prior to his retirement he and his brother Frank owned and operated Urban Town News on Main Street for over 30 years.
He was a communicant of St. James Catholic Church. He was also a member of the Lakewood Rod and Gun and an active member of the Jamestown Coin Club.
He was known as "Mr. Fix-It" to his family – there was nothing he couldn't fix. He was a fan of Indy Car Racing, and took many trips to the races with his son, including attending the 2013 Indy 500. He thoroughly enjoyed his frequent visits to Tim Hortons to meet friends and enjoy conversation and a cup of coffee.
Tom was a true family man and loved spending time with his family. He was the best Papa to Jack, Gracie, Ellie, and Josie, and never missed a sporting event or activity. He enjoyed cooking, especially making a big pot of sauce and meatballs, and having family dinners on Sundays. He loved gardening and working outdoors. He was a jokester and got a kick out of telling jokes and making people laugh.
He loved traveling with his family, having taken the grandkids on many vacations. In 2012, Tom and Dianna were blessed with the opportunity to take the entire family on a week-long vacation to Sandbridge, VA – which they called "Buttafarro Bonanza". He loved Las Vegas and he and Dianna traveled there once a year for many years.
Surviving is his wife of 55 years, Dianna Grice Buttafarro, whom he married October 8, 1966; three children Sherrie (Mike) Southwick, Stacy Felton and Thomas (Shannon) Buttafarro, Jr all of Jamestown; eight grandchildren Jack, Grace and Ellen Felton, Josephine Buttafarro, Mike Jr and Matthew Southwick and Alexis and Arielle Lewis; a brother James (Brenda) Buttafarro of Jamestown; sister in law Janet Buttafarro of Jamestown; and nieces and nephews Roseann Dawson, Frank Buttafarro III, Jamin Buttafarro and Hannah Odell.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother Frank Buttafarro, Jr; sister Ann Caruso and brother-in-law Jack Caruso.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday in St. James Catholic Church.
Friends will be received from 3-6 p.m. Wednesday in the Lind Funeral Home.
Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Janet Lindell Scholarship Fund, c/o Chautauqua Region Community Foundation, 418 Spring Street, Jamestown, NY 14701 or St. Bonaventure University, P.O. Box 2519, St. Bonaventure, NY 14778.
